Another Albacore

The Tribute out of SD caught one today which makes four in the last two weeks or so.

Albacore were a staple of the so-cal fishery for many years. 

around 20 years ago, their number started to diminish and there haven’t been any decent alby numbers for over a decade. 

there is speculation that ocean conditions, etc. may bring their return to the waters around San Diego.

hearing that more than one or two random ones showing up in counts could be a sign of the change.

people like albys because it’s great table fare, and because  it is  not a finicky tuna, and once you find them, you can usually slay them.

I was there in the early 2000s and caught some, and smaller bluefin.

Kinda just really rare. Like every time an old lonely jaguar shows up in AZ.

My first tuna, albacore on the El Capitan probably almost 20 years ago.

We got into some skip-jack tuna a few years ago. Some folks were sad, but they tasted great.

Taste tested skip jack against yellowfin.  Preferred skip jack.

I believe that all canned tuna that doesn't say albacore on it is skipjack.
