Turners Outdoorsman

Recommended Posts

My dumbass thought this place was the same as Outdoorsman’s with the tripod adapters.
I go up to the guy and ask hey can you help me get a tripod adapter on some EL Ranges? He looked at me like I was speaking Russian.  said he’d never heard of it before. I was like what!? Then I figured out, not the same place lol. Anyways, it’s open by superstition springs.  I guess it’s a gun store from California. they got some ocean fishing stuff only that interested me.

We have one in Tucson. Formerly second amendment sports. They sell licenses and OTC tags at ours. Curious if that one does as well.

Not sure. But they’re only 2 miles from the azgfd here so not much more convenient

If you all want to gather around the radio (or care), here’s some of the rest of the story… way back before sportsman’s warehouse and bps and cabelas and Scheels was a small chain of stores called The Sportsman. Location on Stapley and Southern,  7th and Camelback and a Glendale location owned by a local couple. They got a divorce as I recall and sold the business to Glenn and Shirley Links owner of Turners Outdoorsman’s and S&G distributing. They changed the name to Arizona Sportsman and opened a store on cave creek then bought the 2 Jensens stores in Tucson and then Shooters World in phx.  Somewhere along that journey Glenn and Shirley got divorced and essentially he got the Az locations and she kept the Ca locations.  Turners was a big deal back in the day - lots of promotions; outdoor shows etc. Obviously Az Sportsman went by the  way of the dodo, 2nd amendment bought the Tucson locations as I believe, the Mesa and Cave Creek store closed and I think the light rail bought out the 7th and camelback location.  Not sure whatever became of shooters world.

Turners outdoorsman was a good  shop in comifornia.  Spent alot of money  there before  I moved. Yes they moved here to finally  sell guns . There's  so much b.s. that they go thru in cali that they are pretty much  just a tackle shop anymore.

That’s interesting history. I knew a little but most I didn’t. I got to taking to someone years ago about the old Jensens. Man the Az Sportsman on Camelback brings back memories. In the 80s they had guest speakers come in like on Tue or Thur evening to speak. If I remember right HG Listiak and Bob Hirsch were somewhat regulars

What year did it change to Arizona sportsman. I think I remember that. I loved Arizona sportsman because it had a collection castaic baits in like 1999

I remember the one on Stapley. I bought a Calcutta either a 200 or a 250 when they were closing down for like 30% off which was still a lot of money back then.  It was stolen a few years ago.
