HuntHarder Report post Posted March 20 It's the additives and certifications requirements, that these car companies put on oil that has raised the price so sharply. They make it so that 0w-20 isn't the only thing you need, it also has to be dexos certified. I took my new pickup to the dealer for the first 3 oil changes. They were "free" but on the last one, the dipshits couldnt even tighten my oil filter. Thankfully or not, I noticed the oil stain on my pavers a day after my oil change. I am now back to changing my own oil. I can buy supplies to do 3 oil changes for what the dealer wants for 1. Not to mention, the cabin air filter for 25$ instead of 125$. Fuel filter for 1/4 the price. List goes on.

When I popped the hood I noticed the filler cap was gone. Then I noticed the radiator shroud was cracked. The idiot never put the cap back on and left it on the shroud. Well needless to say it cost the dealer more than the oil change was worth to replace the shroud

PRDATR Report post Posted March 20 I do my own oil changes. My truck takes 15 qts so I buy 4 gallons of Mobile 1 5W-40. Since I only drive it on weekends I change it once a year at 5K. A Motorcraft filter was $9.95 at Walmart until Ford changed the PN and design in 2024 and the price jumped to $25. By the time I replace the fuel filter and add some Hot Shot Secret Stiction Eliminator to the oil I'm around $200.

Sky Island junkie Report post Posted March 20 1 minute ago, trphyhntr said: Idk Gotta be a crap ton of stories out there. Like 25 years ago my friends wife had a carwash/ oil change place changed her oil and the dumbazz installes a filter that was a lot longer than stock. When she turned out of the parking lot I think it was the Pittman arm tore off the end of the filter. She didn’t know there was a problem until the motor started clattering. They fought with the outfit and got nowhere
trphyhntr Report post Posted March 20 On 3/18/2026 at 5:54 PM, SO I HUNT said: My daughter just had a recall done on her Tahoe 2024 changed the oil cap on the engine and changed it to a heavier oil weight. Yes 6.2 gas lol great engineering skills right there. They also told her oil changes will cost $250 because of the cost of oil now. Hopefully someone can tell me that works at a dealership if charging $250 is really happening? They probably charge line 12-13 a quart for full synthetic and it takes 8 quarts. They also probably charge 20 for the filter. Then the labor. So it probably is that much at a retail dealer. Which is insane.

No, but be careful if something goes wrong admitting you didn't use their required fluids.
