Red Rabbit

Unit 9 Early Rifle Bull

Recommended Posts

It must be official since the sticky-back tag arrived in the mail today from AZGFD.  Time to wear out some boot leather and tire rubber while scouting this summer to find the cows and green up areas that attract them.  The 300 WSM rifle is in the shop being threaded for a suppressor.  Ordered some new Lapua brass and 180 grain Swift Sciroccos to load up.  Fresh diaphragms and cow calls have already arrived.  This is going to be a fun DIY hunt.

Definitely a good tag to have. Lots off big bulls in the junipers south of Red Butte.

Doug I don't know what to look forward to more. A dead Bull or all the usual great pictures.

I will try to update this thread with photos and words as the scouting and season progresses.

Well-deserved tag, my friend.  Looking forward to your success.

Thanks.  I hear there is a 400" bull behind every tree in unit 9 😉 I've hunted east side, west side, pines and cedars on previous hunts.  So many good locations to sift through.

Maybe Willy Billy will do some scouting for you.

Then you've clearly seen a bunch of 400's.  😆  Congrats on the tag, pray for moisture to maximize growth.  Either way, its one of, if not the best tag in the state imo.

It’s refreshing to see someone pull a tag like that and look forward to DIY. Sincerely hope it’s an awesome adventure for you and that you have great encounters. I’m very much looking forward to the amazing pics I know you will take. Good luck.

Guess I have been looking on the wrong side of the trees all of these years.

How many points did it take? Tag 10 of 20, Just curious

I had only 6 points.  In looking at the draw report, there were people with 1, 2, 3, 5 points who drew.  If one is not in the max point 20% bonus pass pool, still apply.

I was curious on this hunt so looked up the info on it.

No draw or harvest data for this hunt from last year that I could find, but in 2024, it was the following.

Draw:  4/10 of 1% or .004 you'll draw the tag as your first choice.

Harvest:  100%.  Of all the elk hunts in a given year, only a few (< 5) have a 100% harvest percentage.

It's going to be a great hunt so please keep us posted and good luck,

Eddie
