Video of my Elk hunt

Recommended Posts

I've had people ask me to share my Elk hunt I was recently on, on this site and friends. I threw this video together the last few days with my laptop. I am very new to this and want to improve. This is a youtube link and there are two parts. I was trying like heck to make it under ten minutes, but didn't happen so I kept the end a bit longer. I figured if someone is still watching after the kill then they're probably interested enough to watch till the end. If I killed the intro and about two minutes or so of the Bull and not any trailers afterwards I might be able to make it but was trying to show the whole story the best I could.

We have a lot of great Bulls on trail camera (pics, but mostly videos) that I'd like to incorporate to talk about the 4 months of scouting prior but ran out of time and that will come later but a lot of great videos none the less. This is only my second attempt at putting a hunt together. Didn't have all that much video of my hunt, not as much as I would have liked so hopefully it doesn't get too reduntant.

Anyways I would like some honest opinions. I would prefer to hear what you don't like about this video rather than just saying "I liked it." If I don't hear what you do not like then it will be much harder to improve. It's all interesting to me but I am very biased since it was my hunt and I was there and lived it. I have three more hunts we filmed to throw together after this one so your input will definitely help with the next ones.

Please be VERY critical, don't hold back!

I.E.

Was there too much narration? Should I have let the video speak more for itself? Shouldn't have narrated in first person the whole time? Too mono-toned, stuffy? (Sure sounds like it to me LOL)! Not enough music? Get boring? Where did you have your interest? Where did you lose interest and so on...... You won't really hurt my feeling but you'll be helping me. Thanks in advance and I apologize for the gratuitous advertising of my product in the video, it's free advertising so use it huh ??? <img src="http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

Once again, please be Honest.

Amanda sells the Range Snap here in her store.

Thank you

Hey Christian, great video! I enjoyed watching it, never got bored and never lost interest, your narration kept the storyline going and it flowed nicely.

My only thought would be you should add a little segment showing up close your RangeSnap and how useful it is! Promote that product man, it's awesome! I've told everyone I've run into how much I've used and love mine! Congrats on a great bull and awesome video! JIM>

Don't see anything to be critical about! Good job, on the bull and the video.

Like Coosefan I would have like to seen something about RangeSnap, sorry I have no idea what it is.

Did I miss it in the video?

Very nice video :P

Great vid thanks for taking the time to put it together and share it with us. I did feel like a few parts could have been cut shorter here and there but that's just my personal preference. The one thing to remember is that you'll never be able to please everyone when making a hunting video. Some guys want nothing but kill shots and loud music while others want the exact opposite. Make it how you like it and try to put your own style to it without copying other video out there and you should be fine. The only other thing that I can suggest is to work on the narration a bit more. The video starts out very nice. It was up beat and exciting but the narration was a bit too mono tone and didn't match up well with the excitement at the beginning of the video. Otherwise good stuff thanks again!

That was really cool. I can see how you might hesitate when you are looking so closely at certain aspects of his rack like his fronts, but man, when you see royals and thirds like that, along with that width, I can't imagine too many people passing. Great video too - it really captured the hunt.

Since you asked to be "very critical" and "don't hold back"... the only thing I wasn't really into was the intro with the big white balloons or clouds with the hunter and camera man's names. It was good narration for sure, and good music, but some of the effects were, IMO, too stock, like, look what nifty thing I can make my software do.

Maybe I'm just an old cremudgeon, but the fading in and out of website links and graphics and balloons detracted a little bit for me of what was a really nice sequence from the opening shots of that super nice, wide bull to the harvest.

I thought the narration was great, the overall experience was captured, but the opening sequence just seemed a little "cheezey" for lack of a better term, as if your aspiring cousin was experimenting with video effects. Fine for youtube or posting on local sites, but I wouldn't really want to be printing DVDs of that portion.

Overall, it was a very cool and fun video to watch, but you made it clear that you wanted honest feedback about what is good, and not so good. I'd love to have video like that of some of my hunts, but I think it could be improved by less software effects, and more focus on the hunt itself. That's where the video shined, IMO.
