Crushed by my Quad.....almost.

Recommended Posts

Made a bonehead play today. Bought some new loading ramps, battery, and went to my sisters house to get my Polaris sportsman which was stored there while I was in Montana for 2 years.

Hooked the ramps up to the bumper with the safety straps. Rode the quad up the ramps and it sputtered when I got to the top. Gave it gas and it ripped the ramps loose from the straps. the quad toppled out of the truck backwards with me on top. As I slammed backfirst into the pavement the quad was standing straight up and I held the weight with my legs to keep from being crushed. Thank God my sister was there to help take the weight off so I could crawl out from underneath.

I'm gettting to old to have 700 lbs of machine on top of me. Crushed my tailgate.

The only damage to me was my pride....but I will see how I feel in the morning ;)

Thank you Sis!

Oh man, I did the same thing about 3 years ago. It buckled my tailgate, thus saving me! Glad you are ok!

Thanks! It buckled my tailgate also. I think that saved me from serious injury.

Them quads can hurt ya. Glad you're alright. I rolled mine twice in one day a month ago but was lucky as well. I have a recontructed shoulder due to a previous roll-over and it's giving me fits shooting my bow.

Again, glad your sister was there to help you out.

Glad you are ok. Something like that ended up being a 3 month hospital stay for a friend. He was putting a quad on the truck in the garage and ended up hitting his head hard. He is a CHAMP hunter now. Be careful with those quads.......

I agree, the tailgate allowed the qaud to stay upright. Thank God it was not worse, I still cringe when I think of it!

glad you're okay. I had the ramps and loaded my quad in the back of my truck that way for a couple years and every single time, I had the same thing go through my mind....there were a couple times where the ramp was pushed off by the back tire right as I got it into the truck bed and so I was lucky.

+1 on the trailer....much safer.

BAck was sore this morning, but I had an appointment with my Doctor anyway and he is also a D.O. Had him manipulate the back.

But on a more sour note, he said I may have Plantar Faciitis in my right foot. Seeing a specialist on Thursday to see what needs to be done. Taking a week off work to deal with it. No hiking for awhile. :(

Trailer didn't help me much, my trailer came unhitched from the ball (turned out to be the threaded rod needed tightening) when I tried to drive up. It sent me and the bike backwards - natural instinct was to give it gas, drove right off the end of the trailer. Funny part is before riding up on the trailer I jumped up and down on that thing to make sure it was seated properly.
