sonoita antelope ?

Recommended Posts

At the October meeting of the Southern Arizona Wildlife Callers' (SAWC) meeting in Tucson Matt Braun, from G&F, was the quest speaker. He mentioned upcoming transplanting of antelope to Units 35A & B, followed by transplants to 34A & B and then hoping to get some for Unit 31 also. He said 135 antelope were going to the 34's & 35's. Didn't say how many for 31.

Here is the link to the releasing of the antelope in sonoita January 15th 2014

Our Ag class / FFA program has been involved with this program for almost two years now, and will be deeply involved as the project continues. In one of the scenes you can see several of our students standing to the left of the trailer. Next month they will take pare in trapping some more antelope for release. They will be doing data collection on the animals, their movements, survival rates, habitat etc. it's a pretty cool project for the class to be involved in.

If the antelope collars are anything like the sheep collars I'm familiar with, they wouldn't do a hunter any good unless Game & Fish gave you the numbers to punch for specific antelope.

Im just happy that Matt Braun and G&F did this reintroduction the right way, by reducing the predators first. The Catalina Sheep reintroduction could learn from this. They should have worked on clearing out some lions ahead of time before the sheep got there. Can't wait until the population is back up to huntable numbers. I built up 17 bonus points waiting to hunt down in 34b or 35...

Were these released in 34b or 35? And where is the next introduction planned for? There were were 4 herds in the past, the 34a herd, the Sonoita herd, the Elgin herd and the San Rafael herd. Just wondering where these ones in the video were released?
