Went to check two of my cams in the mingus range this morning and as I have always assumed would happen... they were both stolen. Forest service didn't remove them as whoever took them cut the locks, littered and left the straps and batteries laying. I don't even use these to scout for hunting rather I like to just hang them up every May/June/July to get good bear pics for entertainment and kind of fun to go check them.

This isn't about ol' poor me or how I was wronged. We all realize we take a risk when we leave something in the woods. I really don't care that much... I am more bummed about not getting 3-4 weeks of good pics than I am about my cams being stolen. I went 7yrs without getting a camera stolen so I consider that a win :) and one of them was pretty junky.. had been beat up by cattle, etc..

I feel more sorry for the morally bankrupt individual that felt he needed my cameras more than I did. I just hope he didn't have a kid with him at the time. You have to stoop pretty low to steal a few $80 cameras. But honestly I really don't care that much. I'll buy some new ones.

Anyway... If anyone comes across a stealthcam exactly like the one in the picture below while out in the woods with the little DLoop/hook on the side snapped off let me know. It is a very obvious snapped off/broken piece where you'd put a lock on from a cow beating it up one time + I notched out an area on it on the side to make it distinguishable. I know it like the back of my hand so if someone ever comes across it in the woods take a pic and let me know. I'll even let the idiot keep the camera since he needed it so bad... just want to have a good talk with him about stealing.

Thanks for looking.

Its not about someone wanting it for themselves...usually about them not liking the idea of someones camera taking pics of them while hiking or doing whatever they do...still sucks for you

I think youre probably right on the money. Im not a fan of having my picture taken but rather than mess with peoples stuff I just walk behind the cameras I spot. This both prevents my picture ending up on the interweb and preserves the other persons feeling that their spot is still a secret. Although, in the interest of full disclosure, if anyone running cams in 24b ends up with a pic of a hairy bum with a mole on the right cheek.... I dont know anything about it.

Averagejoe, that may be in some cases but stealing is stealing and that is not a legitimate excuse to steal an obvious non-abandoned, working trail cam. They came with bolt cutters obviously. If they were only concerned about their pic being taken they could've just taken my memory card or smashed the camera.

Had one stolen from 8 a couple years ago and im almost positive it was a dad and son. Big and small boot prints in the dirt. They had to cut a cable and a chain so they were prepared. That father son aspect made me madder than losing a cam. Even if it was a cheapo we work hard and earn our things, thats what I teach my kids.

According to some guys on monstermuleys Arizona forum if you own a trail cam you suck, your family sucks, you are a molester, you are a lazy POS, if you don't do it "old school" you are most likely a hippy homo and they hope all trail cams are permanently banned.

same site that you can't read a forum without a cuss being every other word, all the members are sponsored by someone, everyone's ego is bigger than the state of Utah they love so much, and you can't have an opinion that differs from the masses? I read MM when I'm bored at work and I've already read this sites entire new content. Sometimes i find a good read and get interested but I usually give up and google deer and elk porn.

While out scouting this weekend we came across 4 cams and 3 of them were just empty lock boxes. Pretty sad these other hunters cant leave other peoples property alone. Not my cams but still sucks.

I could give a rats behind if a MM or CW member doesn't like trail cams. They're perfectly legal and if you don't like them well don't use them but don't tread on the guy that uses them for entertainment or hunting purposes. Personally I don't hunt the tanks I put them on... I just like getting pics of bears in the dry season and it's a great way to learn how populations of a species are doing in a particular area. Plus I have a 1yr old and he likes to ride in the backpack to check them with me.. fun thing to do with kids. The people that steal them can try to justify it how ever they want but they will face their own judgement day.

Agreed! It is sad that hunters are our own worst enemy.

you don't need to run your own trail cams when you pay for guided hunts. people don't want them banned, they just don't like that people other than their high priced outfitter, have enough ambition to get out there and set up their own cameras

Regardless of the reason why folks steal others property, they are scum sucking A-holes. If there are folks out there doing this with their kids, they are just building another generation of scum sucking A-holes. I guarantee you one of these days and it will be soon with so many folks getting ripped off we will be reading about someone getting hurt because they get caught in the act. If you all remember about a year ago the guys ripping folks above Payson got caught and he was very lucky from what I heard that he only received the hospitality of the Gila Sheriff's office and not the goon squad.

All of these dirtbags make me sick

It will be a good day when all cameras have pass word protection. I personally won't by anymore that aren't. Won't stop those that destroy others property. But unfortunately the ones taking them are using them, which means their just sorry pieces of chit within the hunting community.

Take care, Willie
