That doesn't mean you got your cape tho. They do capes in lots. Chances are you have someone elses cape on your elk.

Thank you for everyone's comments. We talked it through, walked through the matching process- showing how he numbers all the cape. I believe this is my cape, it was likely damaged by the tannery I think.

We spent plenty of time looking at my pictures and how the cape looks now. He agreed to put a new cape on it, which I appreciated. In the mean time, I get to take it home and display it in my living room.

Since it is 12' up, it'll be harder to notice the flaws.

Hmmmm bad cape or maybe not yours. After thinking about it appears different compared to your bull. Going to look ok 12' up so you don't see the flaws???? Crazy long turn around time?

Seriously how do you guys think all that's ok even with the health problems???

Even if you generally like the guy how do you PAY to get a crappy product with an even longer turn around time.

I was waiting for a good taxidermist to chime in on this. You should never have to hide a mount. I had a friend who just started doing taxidermy mount my last buck. Just picked it up today. It turned out really good. Much better than R&R does and it was like his 5th animal to ever mount. Also had it back in 5 months. There is NO excuse, other than laziness for an animal taking much more than a year to complete. We need to start a pinned thread on taxidermists to avoid. Most are repeat offenders

I'm all for it if you know. Turn around times are a touchy thing. And some people specifically say this is how long it's going to take. For those guys I have no complaints. Guys running a true one man studio tend to get swamped. At least if they are good.

It just pains me to see some of the mounts people spend their hard earned earned money to get that are complete disasters. I'm generally not the guy to speak up as its really a personal choice but if guys would spend just a small bit of time and go look at people's work. They would save themselves some headache. I can probably count on one hand how many people have actually come to my shop just to look at the work over the last 2 years!!! Ohwell. Enough blab from me as I have already stepped out of my comfort zone on this type of topic

Bill at R&R is very up front in telling you how long your mount will take. In my case (badger and coues buck) they were dropped off before he started missing time due to a health issue that nearly killed him. An abdominal aortic aneurysm. Someone else on here stated back problems...I don't know anything about those, But the triple A is what set him back. I had a javelina shoulder mount done in 16 months. You guys can chime in on wether or not that's to long, I really don't care. I've also dropped off 2 elk heads to be boiled, bleached and sealed an got those back in about 10 days. I've been in the shop talking to him when guys have stopped by to drop off animals and have heard him tell them that he's behind 24-36 months. He's very up front. Some guys chose to drop off their animals anyways and some have said thanks, but no thanks. Just my 2 cents. All that being said I'm not going to use R&R again until they do get caught up. But when and if they ever do get back to the 12-18 month turn around time that they were at I will for sure be a customer again.

And you will probably get another smiling coues deer mount.
