2022 SD Tuna/Yellowtail trips

Recommended Posts

I am heading up to the Sierras next weekend do some trout fishing and a little hiking.  Nice week long vacation.  Then mid Sept YFT and YT trip, then end the year 1st of Oct for another YFT and YT trip.

For sure some big BFTs on longer trips are coming in.

Good luck to all going out!

Hot one day and cold the next.  Fishing is a finicky one for sure. But no matter what outcome, always take a day on the water than the office!

Just got back from a 6 pack trip on the Cobalt out of Fisherman's Landing.  Had some fun Dorado stop and got into a mix of blue and yellowfin tuna.  Nice breezer and it was on our way back to the barn, so bait was limited.  We metered tuna deep but nothing would come up and play on bait or irons.

I was able to pickup a really nice Dorado on a popper, that was some fun action.  I threw surface iron, madscad and poppers, but no more Dodos or tuna wanted it.  Fishing off the bow, it was like site fishing for the Dodos, flip a sardine out and at times it was game on, others desert.

Dorado and tuna were good sized.  Tuna 25 to 35 pounds.  I ended up brining home about 30 pounds of filets, and finished processing them at home.

Have my last trip booked for the first week of October on the Sauerfish, should be good fun again.

Time for a 2023 thread. Who has trips booked already and who is looking for folks to charter with?

Too early for me but a heads up if you are going in 2023. H&M has 100 gift cards for 80 till the end of the year.. Limit is 5.. Good way to save 100 bucks..

You need a 100# BF. But you may need a new setup.

I have a 3 day in early April on the Polaris Supreme and a 3 day over Memorial Day on the American Angler.

I am contemplating 1.5 day next month on the Tribute for lings in Baja.

That sounds like fun. What's the limit on them? Tribute has been doing pretty good this year.

2 per day and I think anything under 22” (maybe 20”) goes back.

Last year I did a trip to Punta Colonet on the Tribute and it felt like every drop was a hookup on some rockfish.

I kept two lingcod and probably released 4-5 that were short.
