Interesting snake

Recommended Posts

We have a really big  gopher snake at our place. My daughter saw it today at about 630 pm and scared her at first until she realized what snake it was.

Here's a mostly black phase (some red speckling visible) Masticophis flagellum (coachwhip) from outside Tucson years ago.

Are you fuckin telling me I have to look up and on the ground now

In 2017 I was working on Chandler Blvd by the South Mtn Trailhead, and found several grey/white rattlesnakes.   Saw some G&F WMs there and they told me they were Southwest Speckled Rattlesnakes, and they were known to be tree dwellers, feeding off of bird eggs.  Here I was, looking under the trees for them the whole time.   This one missing his head had been ran over by a water truck.

Went scouting last weekend and this guy made my heart skip a beat or two.

Fortunately he gave me a heads up before I was too close. Very colorful yellow, I wish the

pictures were better.  I believe it was a blacktail rattler.

Was out dove hunting today and saw this guy just outside flagstaff. I am thinking a prarie rattlesnake or a hopi rattlesnake but not sure.

Hopi if you saw it around here in the lowlands.  I'd have to go back and look at the current taxonomy, but I think that's one that remained a subspecies of the prairie/viridis group.

It was between Wupatki and Sunset Crater.

Rattler no 2 for the year here in flagstaff. Another hopi. Crazy how many are out. The only rattle snake ive ever seen up here before this year was about 25 years ago and this year I'm at 2 in less than a week. Be careful elk hunting next week.
