Many many years ago in 36B, I caught this guy. Wasn’t a racer, but it liked to climb trees.

Maybe a gray whip tail. Or a gray rat snake.

Out in Redington on a WT hunt, ended up locating a buck and sent lead across a canyon, thought I hit it…. While looking for the deer (ended up missing it) This guy sticks his head up in the tall grass. I ended up catching it and bringing back to camp for show and tell. I’m 6’2”, he’s folded in the middle. He was a doozy!!!!

I live in Gisela,  many times while on a tractor or riding mower I'll look up and there will be a California king snake hanging down from a tree.  Gets me every time.

Yep. Brown vine snake. Locally common around the Pena Blanca Lake area and frequently found on trees!

We only had Garter and Ribbon snakes where I grew up. Garter snakes were more mellow than Ribbon snakes and less likely to bite but they would always secrete a stinky fluid when caught, except the young when they were first born.

If a snake wasn't available locally you could pretty much order anything you wanted from the classified in the back of Field & Stream. There were also buyers so if you had just about any reptile or amphibian they would buy them whether it was one or in lots. Stick them in a box, take it to the post office and send it.

One year my dad bought me a Florida Indigo Snake. It was midnight blue with an orange belly and 4' long. Very docile. I fed it mostly toads which were plentiful.

I'd like that too. Cold beer.

If ever west of Vistancia,  message me

Cold root beer and you got yourself a deal!  I quit drinking in 2013, but will never turn down cold craft root beer!
