Shane Rhoton Indicted for Theft and Fraud

Recommended Posts

Was wondering why I hadn't seen him buying any auction tags recently. Guess it's harder to do when the government isn't paying for them. Might be some big animals for sale soon!

https://fm.kuac.org/2024-12-23/indictment-fairbanks-dentists-submitted-multiple-fraudulent-medicaid-claims-over-5-year-period

Edit: Others online have mentioned some questions about statute of limitations issues, which in Alaska is 5 years from the date of the crime unless it involves fraud. Then it's a year from discovery. Only charge there not involving fraud is the theft charge. Can also see his attorneys have filed motions related to statute of limitations so it will be interesting to see how it all goes.

Just another of the endless examples of the few screwing the many.

You know like those poor somalians in MN or the Uvalde cop found innocent yesterday for not doing his job while innocent children were slaughtered.

As GC says, it's a big club and you ain't in it.

P.S. And @bonecollector if one believes the article in the link, he's a DDM or DDS.

Isnt he a doctor or a dentist?

Dentist in Alaska making $1,000,000+ a year. If he is convicted theres a high probability he loses his dental license. Maybe we will see him down here guiding for his brother Chad/A3 to pay his bills.

If I dentist was making a million dollars a year, (I think you’re way off on your guess), why would he chance stealing from an insurance company for sums of money that small. Wouldn’t he likely have an administrative staff that submitted billing? I know my dentist hasn’t ever sorted through my insurance or taken my copays when I was leaving the office. Also not likely he manages his own books, meaning his CPA was probably going to catch this. How did he think he was going to get away with it? Just seems weird. I will say though, after 9 years, you would think that had something solid to indict him and the others.

I know for a fact I'm not way off. It's not a guess. This guy is a multi millionaire that has purchased every auction tag there is to buy across the western United States in the last 10-15 years.

The sums of money involved aren't divulged. Simply the most serious Medicare fraud charges in Alaska are $25,000+ so that's what it's labeled. It could be a whole lot more than $25,000. Someone will need to get the indicment to figure that out.

As to any other questions you're asking, I have no clue how people run things in that world but I think when people get used to doing something like that it becomes second nature until it all hits the fan.

As a healthcare professional, it all falls under your license.  If your hygienist F’s up, it’s on you, your front office billing staff F’s up, it’s on you.

I think he owns the Big 9 Outfitting concession in BC as well.  I can tell you he’s making WAY more then $1mil a year, or atleast was.  Seems like an awful lot of charges for it to be a small mischart or accidental billing issue so I’m gonna assume things haven’t been on the up and up on the billing end of things along the way, but who knows.  It’ll be interesting to see where it leads.  If it was a mistake I hope they get it cleared up and if it wasn’t I hope they stick em with why they deserve.
