Things I have learned from this forum:

Don't shoot Shitbirds.

Don't commit grammatical errors in posts.

Worden is a word.

The Marines and Army have a rivalry (ok...I knew that).

AzLance is a "Bully" who is really a "Softie".

AZGFD needs to police itself better.

Anything I missed?

An 8th grade education pays better than a college degree!

Thats BS that kid got cited....G&F want kids to get into the sport. So a kid made a simple mistake to a dang tweetie bird.. Come on give the dude a break and just talk to him. Gonna scare that kid to never hunt again. Just my opinion. That warden needs to get a life

There is no way in heck that this kid shoulda got a citation for a sparrow

G&F - you aren't doing the youth program any good if you chit pick about a sparrow

whom ever this G&F wildlife -worden -warden - cop - is there a quota you need to fill -??

teaching a lesson is one thing - but to go to the extent that you went to give this citation proves you really do not know how to deal with the youth hunters

like he wanted to write a ticket and after he couldn't find anything else wrong . went out of this way to make sure this youth would remember not to shoot a sparrow

especially when we all know the crap these wildlife managers seem to get away with!

I'm saddened to think that this kid could have a documented record over this situation. He will be applying for a job in the near future and it could come back and haunt him.

Exactly my thoughts, at least the kid picked it up and didn't just leave it out there. If he had just left it the officer wouldn't have even known that he had shot the stupid thing! The game and fish are crying about needing more hunters to pay for conservation but then do stupid crap like this to a kid who is just beginning to start his hunting career. A little common sense could go a long way.

the fact that he kept the dumb bird screams his innocence....

Actually, to me it doesn't say anything about innocence. It simply bolsters the argument that he didn't know it was illegal (innocence and ignorance are different).

That being said, I of course agree with the majority here that a citation seems pretty harsh in this case. A little 'officer PR' and a discussion about rules & hunter responsibility would have gone much further and been much more effective IMO. Since he's a minor, hopefully the judge will see it that way. Also since he's a minor, hopefully it doesn't impact his record in the long-term (either way, I'm thinking this would not classify as a 'felony'...... I hope I'm right on that.).

I would like to turn myself in up until age 12 I shot at every sparrow on the west side of Tucson. Some kids would save their money for the ice cream man, I would save mine for Yellow front. BB's were a weekly buy and when I had a lot of ice cream money I would buy pellets. I was a chronic sparrow hunter. G&F when you are not buddy hunting could you help me find the error of my ways. If we are having a collection for the kid's fine I will chip in.
