Which one is more flatter shooting? With the most common bullet weights the 270 WSM with 130 or 140 will shoot flatter than the 300WSM in 165 or 180 3. Which one out of these two would be best all around for Javelina & Deer? 270 WSM IMHO 4. Are short magnums more problematic feeding? In my experience...YES Any info is appreciated... sjvcon Report post Posted October 3, 2014 I am a big fan of the .300 WM, but I am also a big fan of the .270 WSM. You can't really go wrong with either one. They will both handle just about anything you want to hunt in the lower 48 (except Moose maybe ... but maybe not). The .300 WM is probably available more places, but I've never had issues getting the WSM anywhere either. Red Rabbit Report post Posted October 4, 2014 For deer and factory ammo, my choice would be the 270 WSM over the 300WSM. Not much flatter but a little less recoil. The 130 gr 27WSM is about 1" flatter than the 150gr 300WSM at 500 yards with a 200 yard zero (per the federal ammo website). If you throw elk into the mix, I'd run 300 WSM. My early WSMs had feeding problems (Kimber, HS), early meaning within 2 years of release. But if you want my preference, run 6.5 WSM ;-) Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Coach Report post Posted October 4, 2014 Why not morph them into IMO the best all-around hunting round, .300 WSM? In your situation, I might take the .270 WSM over the .300 WM. I agree with Scoutm, except I haven't seen any feed problems with short mags. And I agree with 100%diyazcoues (hope I got that right) that any 300 mag is overkill for javi, but definitely not for deer. It's splitting hairs at some point. They're both great all-around cartridges, so it really depends on the actual guns being traded - What makes of both rifles are you considering trading? dse Report post Posted October 4, 2014 If both guns are of like quality, I would trade 300wm for a 270wsm any day of the week. I've had a couple rifles in both. I've never gotten rid of a gun quicker than I did the 300wm's, and the 270wsm is easily my favorite deer round. Hard hitting, flat shooting and mild recoil. STOMP442 Report post Posted October 4, 2014 Deer and pigs don't need a magnum. Standard .270 any of the 6.5s or the .25-06 would be just about perfect. Honestly if I were to have a magnum it would be one in .30 cal pushing the heaviest bullet possible to maximize potential. cactusjack Report post Posted October 6, 2014 I have a Browning A-bolt 270 WSM that shoots great with factory ammo. I killed my mt. lion with it on a Dec Unit 27 hunt. I also have a Tikka T3 Lite 300 WSM that shoots lights out with factory ammo. I carry the 300 on most hunts because it is so light and it groups like crazy. Things dies from it. I shoot eveything with 180gr Winchester Ballistic Sliver Tips. I keep the 270 because my son wants it. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
