They really didn't state cause of death even though I assumed it was weather. Very strange both of them died from weather conditions.

Good point. I guess I assumed it with the mention of all their gear being in the vehicle and the severe weather moving in.

This is why I bought a Garmin Mini, just hope it works when needed. Sad for sure, prayers for the Families!

These stories always puzzle me a bit.   I would like to think, and fact I firmly BELIEVE, that if I was ever caught out in weather away from my vehicle, that I possess the skills to survive.  I carry a basic little emergency Ziplock with me (lighter, fire starter, etc.), and feel like I am ready for the worse case if I need to stay out.

That being said, I'm assuming these two dudes maybe thought they were qualified as well.   Shrug.....

Autopsies are scheduled for today or Monday so we'll know more soon.  I suspect hypothermia was responsible, but time will tell.

Such a baffling and sad story with a horrible outcome.

May they RIP.

Thats a bummer for sure. Was following when it started. My buddy recieved a call for search and rescue but couldnt go out.

When you get cold and think lets just hunker down by this tree and rock and an hour later your arms and legs dont work right its too late, or you just dont wake back up.

In 2004 I was scouting for a 3rd season tag and was about 8 to 11 miles in and I glassed up a women and her friend who were out hiking, they only had shorts, Tee shirts and water bottles. It was 10.30 am partly cloudy and 70 degrees.

On my way out I used the trail to head back to the truck since its faster, but It had started snowing hard and the wind picked up to about 25/30 MPH and it was getting late. Those two were freezing but they made it back to their car, I thought I was going to half to give them my bivy sack.

I never leave truck without everything I need to spend the night on the mountain.

That and the emergency blanket… super light, will help ward off hypothermia. I carry all that stuff  even on southern hunt.
