I think it's time for a new dog

Recommended Posts

It's been almost a year since I lost my super bad a$$ aggressive pug guard dog. He'd kill anything that got close to his toys or me. He was a monster.  I swore I'd never have another dog again, but I find myself alone a lot of the time and could use some company. I don't need a high energy dog. I rarely hunt birds and don't need a bird dog. I don't want a big dog; I'm a small dog guy as I don't like picking up turds bigger than I can push out. My wife is a gangster and wants a Malinois. I'd love one but we don't have the time to devote to one of those.  I'm thinking a healer. I had one when I was wrapping up 7th grade for the second time and it got hit by a truck when it was still a puppy. I had another one when I was studying at the University of New Mexico (GED program) that just disappeared. I'd like to have a loyal companion that isn't clingy or will eat me in my sleep.  Would this be the correct route, or should I look for something else? I've only had bad a$$ killer pug dogs for the last 25 years, so I don't know much about other sissy dogs.

you shouldn't have waited this long. There's tons of cool dogs out there waiting for you love. Sucks they don't last longer

Healers are really good dogs. I will get one of those again or a mini aussie if you want small dog.  Smart dogs that can listen and do what they are told.

A friends daughter has a French Bulldog that is a few years old. Loves to play fetch and is super friendly.

Get an Airedale. Several of us here have pups from John, who is a member here and has pups available ready to go.

Mine is great. Will retrieve birds, and enjoys it, but isn't CRAZY like a hard-core bird dog.

Chases after critters in the yard, but not so intense she will hurt herself.

Content laying on the couch, but loves hiking for miles in coues country.

So no big dog, then yes, a Heeler could be a good option!

I’ve always been sort of a Vizsla snob. Just love the breed.  (Probably higher energy than you’re looking for, it sounds like.)  That being said, my GF has a Heeler that I’ve been spending a lot of time with camping/hiking/adventuring.  Nice medium-smallish size and great demeanor.  I’ve become a fan!

Good luck in your search!  👊🏻

My son has a Shedding Machine, I mean Blue Heeler.  He's no Skid Boot by a long shot but is friendly and at about 4 years old pretty mellow. His mother was a farm dog so no idea who the father was but he looks 100% Heeler.

I vote for  Boston Terrier. I take Bucky with me glassing and hunting pretty often he is a really good dog.  He's good at picking up movement too, only downside is he loves chasing moo cows.

But my favorite dog on my customer route is a heeler not a blue he's a red with bright blue eyes IMG_20250131_172337.thumb.jpg.a15bdba72bd4e50583777a598af2d27e.jpg

My Airedale is a pretty good house dog and becoming a great bird dog. So much so wife wants a second one soon .  She’s intense when it time to be.

and she’s really getting good at water retreating also
