If You Could Trade Tags

I drew my 2nd tag for antelope in 35 years. Hopefully for my first choice unit 5B.

Don't get me wrong I consider myself extremely lucky and fortunate for any tag.

But, I would gladly trade the antelope tag (If it were Legal) for an Archery Bull Elk tag in almost any Unit.

If it were possible, would you trade an antelope tag for a bull elk tag?

No way! I can draw 2 Archery Elk tags or 4-5 late season Elk tags in the same amount of time it takes to draw a rifle Antelope tag.

After I draw my first then heck yes I would! But until then my antelope tag is my dream tag.

I have taken 2 antelope with a bow. Zero elk. Yes I would trade.

I have had 4 archery bull tags in 28 years of applying, 26 of those years my first choice has been unit 1 and second choice 27. The last two years I had unit 1 late rifle as a second choice.

I now have 25 points for antelope, I would trade them in a second for a unit 1 archery bull tag. There may be better elk units but I love that country.

You can fly to Wyoming in the morning, drive for an hour. Pull over and shoot an antelope. Bone it out. Put it in a cooler. Fly back home in time for dinner.

My AZ antelope hunt (actually my second tag, first successful hunt) was pretty remarkable. Being with my boys on all those scouting trips, the research, practicing with the muzzleloader and then ending up with it in a magazine, I don't think I would trade it for anything.

 

I love hunting elk, but that hunt was perfect.

Why the he!! would you do that when you can draw an archery elk tag every year? I would gladly exchange tags if we could.

I've draw early archery elk tags like clockwork every third year. I'm sitting on 12 lope points and I know I have a long way to go before I draw my 10 or 5b antelope tag. I would trade in a heart beat!

I just drew only my 2nd antelope tag with 22 points. Unless I apply for archery hunts after this, draw statistics say this year likely will be last Arizona pronghorn tag (and that sucks!).

 

As for elk, until this year my last tag was in 2010 (I apply only for archery bull hunts). BUT, I still go out every year and help on friends' hunts.

 

Nothing floats my boat like September bugles --- so AFTER this year, YES, I'd rather hunt elk!
