How Heavy Is Your Hunting Rifle?

Recommended Posts

270 tikka with scope and bipod 8ish. I do not have a problem with it out to 600 yards. Farther I really need to be steady with the light gun

300 win mag Remington Long Range heavy barrel 26" with everything on it 12#. I haven't taken it out hunting yet. Short half day hike only

Weathyby 6.5 creedmoor 9# 24" barrel

I have a first year stainless 700 ADL. Probably weighs more than a blue version. It sports a Zeiss scope and might be about 9 pounds.

Wish it was closer to 7.

That's with a 20 ounce scope too.

ReLly, really easy. More important than light, they are well balanced.

For starters, drop the bipod.

My $0.02 is it should be illegal to hunt without a bipod. I've seen more wounded animals and missed shots to a poor rest then anything else.

Thanks for the early morning laugh!

I think magnums should be illegal too based on that hilarious line of thinking...

I just put together my Kimber Adirondack 6.5creedmoor. It is scary light. with suppressor, tripod, sling and scope it weighs in just shy of 7lbs. Crazy light.

But I normally shoot my Tika T3 Lite 300wsm and suppressed it weighs in at 10lbs 13oz.

I have a few heavier and a few lighter, but these are now my main 2.

The Win 88 with scope and sling is 9.5# but the old Rem Gamemaster, scope and 10 round magazine is 12#. No wonder I'm exhausted.

Most are north of 10. Heavy enough to think about cutting weight but light enough to suck it up and head up the next hill.

Never weighed my rifles but I'm bored at work and decided to look up weights online to estimate.

Rifle (Savage Axis Youth) - 99.2 oz

Scope (Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14x40 BDC) - 17.6

Base+Rings - 5.3 (estimated)

Butler Creek Covers - 1 (estimated)

Total = 123.1 oz or 7.69 lbs

.308

Rifle (Savage Axis) - 104 oz

Scope (Simmons 3-9x40 ) - 10.8

Base+Rings - 5.3 (estimated)

Total = 120.1 oz or 7.51 lbs
