...How the heck can anyone predict what next year will bring.

I can only assume their predictions are based on experience gauging available feed right before dropping and the current bleak precipitation forecast for much of the West.

If this past winter had been wet, with a wetter-than-normal spring forecast, we would all be anticipating exceptional antler growth.

History,

In fact I talked to another last night and learned that many told their prospective clients to only put in for bonus points

I would take a great rut over a great antler growth year anyday.

For sure, these small antlered elk are still made out of meat right?

Yeah and I'm just the opposite. I have elk all over my property and spend every Sept listening to bugles, chasing elk etc... I don't have a need to have a elk tag in my pocket to enjoy Sept in Elk country. I want to try and kill big bulls when I get another tag.

I got the early archery bull tag in 8.  If I remember, you live up that way. None the less, your welcome to give me a shout in late Sept for a report.

Watch out for the freakin homeless camps.  I never saw one in 20 years, then this past year, I ran into two seperate camps.  One south of Williams was right where I camped in 2018 and 2019.  Talked to a guy that said Ash Fork is full of them.  It's a shame the Forest Service doesn't do anything about it.

I live in 8 and drive around all the time. There are a few homeless camps but its not bad at all. A lot of the rigs you see parked for weeks on end are logging crews. It is overrun with weekend warriors until we get a good snow. Sadly that didn't happen this year. If you want to see homeless camps drive north of i40 between parks and flagstaff.  One camp has a rubber made garden shed. Its sad no matter where they are!
