Oh great now mules. We don't need those up there.

Looking back at the 2002 Rodeo Chedeski fire I bet they wish they got those reservation fences fixed pronto like.  All those Indian horses crossed over onto NF & public land and the rest is history of nightmarish proportions.

Why not both? Buildings are replaceable. Maybe not to what they used to be but being concerned for a feral animal to spread across the kaibab is a legitimate concern that would have long lasting effects. (Even if he was mistaken as to mules not being able to breed).

I agree with everything you wrote but his only concern looks like was the mules.

re the mules:

"news about the mules came in this morning from GRCA Superintendent Ed Keeble:
All of the mules, every single one, were corralled and taken safely, and alive, to their main ranch in southern Utah! "

Curious who's still watching this.   My AZ Trail hiking partners and I are completely finished, with the exception of the four most norther passages that go from the GNP boundary north to the Utah border.  The trail roughly parallels 67 right through the Kiabab forest.  We had this weekend planned for two of the sections and were going to finish the final two in mid-September.

I had originally figured that once 89A was reopened, we could then get it done.  Like a dumb-dumb though, I hadn't considered the closure of the KB forest separate of the highway closures.  Turns-out the northern district of the Kiabab forest is closed THROUGH September (unless said otherwise...).   So, no AZ Trail finish for us in the next couple of months, as we had planned.

Made me think again of the archery guys.   A real drag!

Kaibab National Forest | White Sage Fire Temporary Closure for Public Health and Safety | Forest Service

Thoughts for those directly impacted by this (like the Jacob Lake Inn and other business, plus the GNP lodge impact), and gratitude to the fire fighters involved in the effort to control/contain!

The fire is 44% contained and unless another fire breaks out south of Jacob’s lake I think the archery hunters will be ok.

Ya, I've been watching the containment closely.

Containment or out completely, the Kiabab National Forest still needs to make a decision to open, though.  The current order states norther district of KBNF closed through September, so hopefully that was just them over-shooting to give themselves enough time to deal with it all.   Hopefully once the fire(s) are out and if some decent monsoon moisture finally comes, they will re-open sooner than the current order states.

Speaking on Monsoons July is almost over and there has been very little Statewide. When if does happen it is over pretty quick and it seems everywhere places only get a 1/10 or two once or twice a week at best then nothing for a week or two.

I saw this.  Not a good spot to have a fire during the hunts.

From the Bureau of Land Management, the Oak Point Fire is now 100 percent contained at 85 acres.
