I was able to get my turkey on opening morning. Something different happened on this hunt that I have never seen or heard of before. After I shot my turkey he is flopping around on the ground when out of nowhere a bald eagle comes dive bombing out of the sky through the trees and lands on top of my dead turkey and starts attacking him with his talons and beak. I guess he wasn't bothered by the gunshot I had just used on the Tom. Anyways I had to run quickly to scare him off before my dead turkey flew away.

Wanted to share my sons 1st turkey. Got to our spot the afternoon before the opener. Roosted a bunch of toms. Opening morning 15 minutes after they flew down from the roost it was over. We had 15 toms strutting all around us putting on a good show. It was an awesome morning. Never called 1 time.

My son has had it great. Every year he's had turkeys called in with lots of gobbling and the ideal turkey hunting experience every year. When I was his age there was no over the counter youth hunt. My dad and I had no clue what we were doing when we first started turkey hunting. We attended many classes and seminars on how to hunt. We still failed most years but we kept at it and all the experiences and time made me the turkey hunter I am today. Do I wish my dad would have been a better turkey hunter and spoiled me, sure but I grew a lot closer to my dad through learning together. I am really grateful to him because he was the one who originally wanted to start turkey hunting. For me it was just a way to bridge the gap between the fall big game hunts. Now it's become my favorite hunt of the year. So keep at it your son is lucky to have a dad like you who takes him out each year.

Got another hot lead on some pizza for you guys. Kid bought a car up in the valley today and I went with to do the dad stuff. Anyhow the food conversation came up and I asked about his (sales dude) favorite pizza spot. Didn't see it mentioned in this thread and was rated by Dave portnoy so I looked up the review. He gave it a 7.9, he said if the crust was a bit more crispy it would have went up to an 8 (I liked the crust as is personally). This was the first pizza I tried rated by this guy so it was cool to just see where his baseline was. And I think 7.9 is a fair review. I would say it had a flavor slightly different that I couldn't put my finger on, might have been the basil flakes they put on it but I kinda don't think so. It's not the holy Grail I've been looking for but definitely good and worth trying. Via Della pizza on 5th and Van Buren For what it's worth I tried a few Rays pizzas in PHX and they have not been consistent, I tried the one off I think 17 and deer valley and it was really good. I would put via Della in the same ballpark and would also say that in Tucson Rosattis, Brooklyn pizza and American pizza co in Vail are in the same ballpark. If I'm honest I'm feeling like American pizza co has the edge. Now get your butts out there and help me find my 10!!! Pics below are from today. Big basil flakes definitely made it look pretty.

Other than haters, most of us agree that side by sides are extremely useful for hunting, offroading etc. However, in my opinion, the biggest draw back is the dust. Not necessarily for myself or passengers, as we can layer up, use goggles and shower. But, the gear in the bed gets absolutely covered in dust. Has anyone used anything that actually works for dust protection? I've heard of guys using duffle bags, but those things would have to be massive to hold the average hunting pack filled with day supplies, spotting scope, tripod, let alone multiple bags.

My hunting partner made me two pack covers out of one of our wind mangled Ez ups.

Glad it worked out like that. People who dump their animals should be taken out and left naked in the middle of nowhere to try to survive like they expect the pet to.
