It’s been a journey a very blessed and every painful & very humbling journey , but yea im starting to get back on my feet a little , a long ways from 100% - but im getting there day by day . Thanks to all
They were screaming in 6a today. Saw lots of quality bulls pushing cows. Reminded me of the best archery hunts from days gone by. Two of the youth hunters we were helping doubled up today for their first kills in the cow elk general hunt.
Yes. Regardless of when they were conceived/born...they will follow the natural primary rut cycle once they are mature breeding age.
I have noticed that if feed isn't good due to dry conditions, they won't come into estrus. If we see late rain activity, like we did this year, this will kick them into second estrus.
They will also kick into second estrus if they didn't get bred during the primary cycle. (if conditions are good)
This has been my experience closely paying attention all these years. I too have witnessed where the second rut is unbelievable.
Unfortunately, this happens on years we don't put in for tags due to bad antler growth.
I would say reasonably close, but I wouldn't hunt untill I put it on paper again. I'm headed out tomorrow just to check four rifles that have just been sitting.

Friday got in a 90 minute shooting session at the BA Frank DeSomma range. Calm morning about 70 and cross wind component of 3-4 mph. I was verifying my custom 270 at 218, 328, 420 and 547 yards. I was using a custom built on an older REM 700 action with a #4 24 inch Lilja barrel and Hornady 140SST Superformance ammo. This build has been very accurate with the Hornady ammo that has been sorted for bullet runout of .001-.002. I wanted temperature near what my NOV hunt would be and calm winds to get base performance, this has been a pre hunt routine for several years. Using StreLok Pro ballistic app with my input of temp, humidity and station pressure I came up with my dialup. All targets were 2MOA. This ammo runs at 3160 fps at the muzzle. Red steel 328y - Blue steel 420y and Green 547y.

Tossing around the idea of selling my brand new FX Impact M4 .25 cal. Literally a month old and even comes with a cheap night vision scope. Just filled the tank. Haven’t shot it yet, it’s too fancy for me. I need a more simple setup. Was going to use it for rats in the back yard and still might. $1800, comes with the scope and a bunch of pellets. I17 and carefree hwy.
Totally depends on the mounts.
I have a Rem Mountain rifle that I remove the walnut stock from and put it in an aluminum breakdown shotgun case inside my duffle. Because of the way it's bedded it's always zeroed when I put the stock back on. I often take a back up scope on hunts that's pre-zeroed. Works for me
Multiple bulls came thru my brother's property in Young last night screaming. Came within 80 yards of his campfire just at dark and put on quite a show.
Got it done before the storm came in today. Found a rut fest mid morning and the action was hot. Daughter got it done with 1 shot from 25 SST at 360 yds. Hunter was there helping, it’s hard to believe he’s nearly grown. Seems like yesterday he was following me around these same hills begging for snacks.
This one got me a feeling a little sentimental.
