2 pointsGet an Airedale. Several of us here have pups from John, who is a member here and has pups available ready to go. Mine is great. Will retrieve birds, and enjoys it, but isn't CRAZY like a hard-core bird dog. Chases after critters in the yard, but not so intense she will hurt herself. Content laying on the couch, but loves hiking for miles in coues country.

1 pointI vote for Boston Terrier. I take Bucky with me glassing and hunting pretty often he is a really good dog. He's good at picking up movement too, only downside is he loves chasing moo cows. But my favorite dog on my customer route is a heeler not a blue he's a red with bright blue eyes

1 pointMy son has a Shedding Machine, I mean Blue Heeler. He's no Skid Boot by a long shot but is friendly and at about 4 years old pretty mellow. His mother was a farm dog so no idea who the father was but he looks 100% Heeler.

1 pointSo no big dog, then yes, a Heeler could be a good option! I’ve always been sort of a Vizsla snob. Just love the breed. (Probably higher energy than you’re looking for, it sounds like.) That being said, my GF has a Heeler that I’ve been spending a lot of time with camping/hiking/adventuring. Nice medium-smallish size and great demeanor. I’ve become a fan! 1 pointSince you asked… I’ve got about 10 days sheep hunting and 3 javelina hunts in the Lexus and really like it. The 4runner gets around a little better but the Lexus has more headroom and fits me and my boys better.
