There is a lot of crap I can't do anymore due to various ailments. It is what it is. Get over it.

I think what it all comes down to is most guys understand life isn't fair. Not everyone can do the same things and that's just the way it is. It sucks having health issues that keep you from doing things you enjoy but that is life.

Jan 1, 2024 archery javelina hunt. First thing in the morning I glassed up this lion in the video. I thought that was a bad sign for finding the javelina that he just stole this baby from but happened to find the javelina all feeding a couple hundred yards behind him. He must have snatched it up without it making a peep, otherwise I'd expect the herd to be agitated. This lion stopped after watching him carry the baby for a hundred yards and started eating it but was just slightly covered from my view. Due to the wind, the only way I could get to the javelina was to go 60 yards under the lion under a rock rim, which I did and then snuck into 15 yards from the javelina and got one. I went back to check on the lion and found the tiny remains of his quick meal. Lion.mov

If you can hunt with a crossbow then you can hunt with a gun. I have yet to see anywhere in the proposal where it forbids anyone from hunting. The argument of a few on here just doesn't hold sand. Pick up a gun and go hunt. Lastly, everyone's minds are already made up on the issue. I suggest everyone with an opinion one way or another to write G&F or show up and speak at meeting.

Not a lack of empathy at all from my view point. Life is 100% not fair. I see archery hunting as a specialized form of hunting. If you are still hunting, but not able to bowhunt, be grateful. I've said it before, when i no longer can bowhunt, I will hang up my bow and gun hunt until I can't. Some areas I hunt require hiking in multiple miles before you can legally hunt. Should there be a road installed for the guys that can't make that same hike, due to a disability, to give them the same access? My answer is no, they still have the ability to hunt, just not this particular honey hole. As you have mentioned, I, nor anyone else, is going to change your mind and you aren't going to change my mind.

What has surprised me the most through this entire process is the lack of empathy and support for fellow hunters, specificly ones that are trying to have as normal of a life as possible while dealing with medical issues. Is it jealousy? Fear? Pure protectionism? Ignorance? It must be driven by scarcity and FOMO. I started writing my story but decided it doesn't matter, people's opinions are set. I wish you all years of health but if you do have an unfortunate change of medical situation, I hope you are able to continue participating in something you love even if it has to be modified to an extent.

I purchased a few items from a guy a few years ago to help him out… but I really don’t need any of these guns and will probably never use them. All of these have been carried and do show some signs of use… but they have been very meticulously maintained and it shows. I will try to list the details here as well as I can. 1 - Winchester post 64 Model 70 rifle in 30-06 with vintage correct Weaver K6 scope and mounts. Just had a new but pad professionally installed by a local gunsmith. In incredible condition for this vintage of model 70 $750 OBO 2- Remington Speedmastter 22LR with Tasco 2-7 scope with see through rings so you can use the iron sights. Amazing condition $500 OBO 3 - ***SOLD*** Winchester Model 101 Field Grade O/U Shotgun 2.75 - 3”. I don’t know what the barrel choke is on either barrel… but the barrel length is ?? Comes with the vintage Boyt soft case. $875 OBO 4 - ***SOLD*** Remington Fieldmaster Pump 22LR Circa 1950s. Excellent condition! $500 OBO I work near Greenfield and the 60 in East Mesa, so the Sportsman’s Warehouse over there is a great place to meet for me. What it all comes down to is a bunch of guys who hunt with compound bows trying to preserve their opportunity at the expense of others. It’s just self preservation and jealousy.

The CHAMP permit isn't going away. Neither is the Crossbow permit. You are going to have to deal with that. The only things they are deciding are-- What conditions qualify. Who can sign off. What can be used on the crossbow.

I understand that life isn't fair, never claimed that it was. Myself and a bunch of other disabled vets get that 100%. We get a hardy "Thank you for your service" on Nov 11th, but then we get told Life isn't fair when it comes to trying to live a somewhat normal life.

There are a lot of guys/gals out there who are quietly thinking... "Geeze, I know of at least one person who cheated to get a crossbow permit because they were lazy and wanted it easy." They presented stats on crossbow permits applied for / issued after the elk season opened. Told to me from someone on the committee. I don't know the numbers. I know 3. 2 of them tagged a deer from the same unit... which closed in September. Ed F

I imagine if they were caught up in illegal activity then the police would have more to go on. I’m sure they’ve been through their phones and social media accounts. That makes it even more disturbing if it was either random or they stumbled onto something bad going on. We have some rifle tags in that area, definitely going to be vigilant and aware of what’s going on around us.

I did a prime rib this year but forgot to take a picture so I’ll add to this thread by posting one from a couple years ago with a giant Coues next to it. I love cooking on my Traeger, I'm sure there are others that are better or just as good but I've had pretty good luck with mine for almost 10 years now. I did have to replace an auger motor and a fan but that is about it.
