I found it. Not a good look. I was helping a friend hunt in 2023 and he had 2 crippled birds that I recovered. The suckers stood up, spread their wings and were wanting a fight. I wouldn't have carried a live one on my shoulders. I was glad I watched Karate Kid as a youngster. I know that the Crane Technique is not to be messed with. You have to sweep the leg.........

Hey Guys, I didn't want to step on Tomgobblers thread Pine Box, but everyone has their time, and maybe there's some of you like myself that has more days behind you than in front. Any way if you have an honorable discharge, Uncle Sam will set aside a plot and headstone for you. I recently contacted the VA for prior authorization, something you might want to do to save your survivors from doing so. I applied on the VA website in Sept of 25, due to the govt shutdown I received the paperwork yesterday.

Killer deal. Those original Tundras go almost anywhere and ride nice and smooth. Plenty of power w the V8 unlike the Taco and 4Runners. I wish I’d have kept my 06 for hunting. GLWS

I built my own back in 2010 right after both my parents passed! My wife been bugging me ever since and I just couldn’t stand thinking about it even though I have custom built probably 20 more since making my own! Two years ago we got our meager assets all lined up in a trust where my wife declared she was going to be cremated! So I bit the bullet and put this urn together for her!

This is a nice looking Stevens 20 ga sxs. It has one set of 28" barrel which I think are Full & Mod. It has a second set of 24" barrels with 410 inserts. So, you can shoot 20ga or 410. The 24" barrels are choked IC. Located south Tempe area $800

Coues tag started Dec 15 on Ft. Huachuca and I hadn’t had much time to hunt, so I broke away on 30th for a quick day trip. Hit the road at 3:30 AM, buck down by 8:30, and back home by noon. Glassed all morning, only picking up does and no sign of bucks. I was just about ready to pack up and move when I gave it one last look. Caught a flick of movement that gave him away. He was tucked in perfectly—never saw his head or antlers—but his body size told me he was a buck. He was about 400 yards out with no shot, so I ditched my gear and closed the distance to 225. At first I couldn’t find him and thought he might’ve slipped out, but after slowing down I picked up his legs in the same spot—standing now, still no shot. If he dipped, I was done. Instead, he turned in place and bedded back down, opening up a small 12-inch window through the brush. That was all I needed. He never made it out of his bed. Shout out to all the guys on here that gave me some knowledge and pointers! Thanks a ton! Tried adding more pics, but wouldn’t let me got some reason.

We finally made it up last week for my boy’s elk hunt, and he made it count. His first shot was solid, clipping the heart. Earlier that day I’d told him if the elk was still on its feet after the first shot, don’t hesitate—put another one in her. After that first hit, without a word from me, he sent a second round into the lungs. As the cow turned and started to go down, he followed up with a third shot, again through the lungs. She dropped instantly, clean and quick. Hardly any meat damage, and we came away with just over 100 pounds of ground elk.

long range hunting.com forums classifieds have some great deals on really nice custom rifles occasionally. Whenever a buddy of mine is looking to get in the LR game I just watch on there for a bit and find them a $5-6k build for $2500-3k. Miles better then the so called “custom” rifles that Fierce, Seekins, or god forbid Christenson offer for the same price.

My uncle came to see me , he has cancer and the Dr.’s are giving him the long face - 😞 so he asked if ide build him , a plain old simple pine box . How do you say No to that ?? Elk antler handles and elk Burr inlay ….. I guess this qualifies for a plain old simple pine box …..

I stand by what I said. Nobody cares about him not having a national forest service permit. he should get in trouble or whatever since it’s the law. But it’s not the crime of the century No I don’t think that’s poaching. I don’t need to elaborate.

Thx for reply, I see 43.7-46.5(c) on modern reloading (2nd Ed). Now that I look at Hodgdon site, it says same thing.

Good deal as this is the exact same glass even in the new version that meopta puts out. As I understand their new version is the same glass just new body design.

Why let death change anything? The honor of serving with some of the the greatest patriots of our time is second only to resting among them for eternity. Thanks for the info.

You took your 1/4 measurements way too far up. I would say G&F are about right on with this one. 34” divided by 4 is 8.5”.

Anyone out there find a place to replace those rubber latches on the Cabela’s 60 qt heavy duty cooler. Looking to replace the type that that’s the bottle opener on it. Looks like Cabela’s doesn’t sell them anymore and there are several after markets but want to make sure I get the right ones for fitting correctly. Thanks

Walapai Johnny was like a grandpa to me. One of my heroes. I grew up around him, learned how to roll smokes and drink Lord Calvert whiskey straight from the jug from that old man. When I was in middle school my class was assigned to do a report on somebody they admired. While most people chose to report about celebrities and athletes, I interviewed Walapai and did my report on him. Man the stories he could tell. When I turned in my assignment, the teacher told me the assignment was supposed to be about a real person and that she was going to make me re do the paper. When I told Walapai about this he drove his 1959 Ford cattle truck from Fredonia, Arizona to Cedar City, Utah and came to my class, told the teacher he heard that she didn't think he was real and proceeded to enchant the entire class with his stories. Needless to say I got an A after that. This was a couple of years before he died, I was probably 14 and he was in his 80s. He was the last of the true cowboys, or as he referred to himself, " the last of the blue-eyed Indians." Walapai died in 1996 from an infection in his leg which the docs told him that he could live for a few more years if he would let them amputate his leg. He told them "I came into this world a whole man, I'm goin out the same." Rest in peace Cowboy, you made me who I am today.

Reloader 17 is a great 7-08 powder, as is H4350 and most others in that burn rate. For heavies in a 7-08, I like the 168 Berger VLD. Great bullet down to 1600 or so impact speeds and penetrates well. Run those numbers at 2,650 MV.

My favorite powders were 4064, RL15 and W760 but that was 20 years ago so there might be some better ones. I loaded 110, gr to 168 bullets in a factory 700 24" barrel which was 1/9.25. 175gr seems a bit much for that little case.
