Biggest piece of advice I could offer is don't get a pair you're going to be upset about if they break. I bought my son a pair a few years ago and within 30 seconds of him putting them on the tripod they fell over. Luckily they weren't a high-end pair so it wasn't a big deal.

I have a nice pair I bought my boy around that age and are like new. You are welcome to come get them. I even have a small bino harness for them. All yours if you’d like.

I love the scope. A lot of bang for the buck. Great glass, nice zero stop, usable reticle.

I appreciate the offer, Markleo21377! It's easy to tell from your postings that, like many others here on CWT, you really get pleasure from helping youth hunters. I certainly do too. I just got home from an overnight Boy Scout camp, and saw that my wife bought the stuff I added to our Amazon cart for my youngest son, including the Vortex Bantams. I do like Vortex, my hesitation was about the low price and magnification. But, I guess we'll give them a try. It's too bad squirrel hunting season is up. These are going to be good enough for that. By the time next year's big game season starts, he'll be ready for some that are a bit larger. My other son got 8x42s at age 10, although he is a bigger kid.

Oh the trial and tribulations we go through as a parent. 99.9% of the time our kids take it the hardest. Most of the time something happened I tried not to laugh. Hugs and ice cream usually take care of it.

Also 8x32s if they still make them.

I don’t think they make these anymore but look them up…incredible clarity for how compact they are. I would love to see them go to another kiddo. I am up off Carefree Highway if you want to pick them and bino harness up Redfield Rebel 8 by 32

Since kids eyes are closer together a full size pair just doesn't come together close enough for them to get both eyes lined up. I would shoot Doug or Neal at Camera Land and have them make some suggestions. 6.5X is on the low side but, it might be just the right amount of power for him to be able to hold steady. He may get bored looking through them too for an extended period of time but 6.5 would be great when in the forest.

Check out Camera land. Looks like they have a good deal on a GPO 10x42 right now. I bought an Athlon binocular from them years ago that worked out really well for Grandkids, pretty good glass. They are good people to work with. Good luck.

Hadn’t seen much rut activity this Jan until a week ago. After a few days of rain I found 14 bucks all w does. Too many deer on the Mnt to even get in there and hunt one of them. Came back a week later and saw a buck stand up at 8Am w 3 does. Range was 1500 yards. Got the spotter out to check the details. 3x3=go time. Made a plan to get half way and try to relocate. From that spot I couldn’t see into the cut he was working down. I glassed one of his does and decided to close the distance to see if I would be able to see into that cut and maybe make a play. Got to the skyline of that cut with perfect wind and some cover I was able to see the buck behind an ocotillo. Range was 82 yards. I knocked an arrow and dialed the slider to 82. If he steps out I will get a chance. 1 well placed arrow and he ran for 2 seconds. Made a trip to the truck to drop all my gear and hiked back to process him and pack out. I could not be happier. I’ve been trying to do a solo spot and stalk Coues for 10 years now.
