UPDATE 9.24.21 Commission Meeting We need to tell AZGFD and the Commission to stop paying social media to expedite the loss of opportunity for AZ residents! Yesterday the department gave an update on the 2023 hunt guidelines. This much is clear, OTC archery deer hunting is likely to change or disappear in the near future unless something changes. Please make our voices heard by signing and sharing this petition. *** Since 2016 AZGFD has been paying influencers between $5k - $60k per year to promote a wide range of hunting opportunities in Arizona. This program has been very effective at increasing license sales among Non-Residents and increasing demand for previously under-subscribed hunts. A portion of this effort has been focused on OTC archery deer hunting. Promoting these specific opportunities has contributed to a rapid loss of opportunity in OTC hunts. Since this advertising campaign began Non-Resident license sales have increased dramatically while there has been a 25% decline in OTC opportunity. I am encouraging all AZ residents to sign the petition below and request that AZGFD cease their promotion of all hunts without a non-resident cap. I fear that if these opportunities are lost for residents in our state that we will quickly lose the interest of the public and become subject to a disinterested and disengaged electorate who will no longer support wildlife at the ballot box. It is critical that we maintain every opportunity possible for residents of this state to ensure this privilege exists for future generations. https://chng.it/62rjYqFMYp

Sorry just saw this. Bugling has been very very sparse, mostly early morning contact bugles, but not much else. I was able to get this guy yesterday morning cow calling, which called another cow in to me that he was chasing.

I already have an emergency fund of over $500 setup as well as investments. I have 0 car payments or cc bills. Im asking for optics advice. Thanks.

Restrict this, restrict that blah blah blah. Here we go again with restricting everything some of us feel is unfair. Keep pushing restrictions and see where it gets you. If your going to restrict things might as well throw in the optics and rifles allowing people to shoot 1000 yards and more. Oh wait, no can’t do that cuz it gets into your wheel house. Keep up the restrictions bandwagon, soon it will be something you love to use. What a freaking JOKE!

My thoughts on your comments... eliminate crossbows during archery season??.I have talked to” hunters” bragging of 140:yard shots during archery antelope with their compounds and adjustable sights . And crossbows are the issue? NOT. It’s technology. same with muzzleloader hunting. Colorado restricts scopes and sabots . AZ should do the same. antelope hunts in New Mexico are 3 days. Their population is in great shape compared to ours. Cut our seasons, make people scout. mandatory reporting.., our candy butt GF doesn’t want to lose revenue, but NM, the Navajo Nation and others will block you from applying if you don’t do mandatory reporting. Ratios are BS. Mandatory reporting for EVERY big game animal hunt or you’re out of the draw next year or five. Just my thoughts. And I am touchy on those of you “bow hunters” who want to eliminate crossbows from the archery season. After threee shoulder surgeries and admitting I cannot accurately and ethically shoot a bow anymore, I have a permit and an X bow. But as stated above, the “ ethical” hunters flinging arrows out to 150 yards at live targets make me realize I am not the problem for the future of “bow hunting” by the harvest ratios. I started with a Bear Grizzly, 25 yards was max range. Most “bow hunters” now don’t even have a 20 yard pin.

Hey all, lurker around here for a while. Anybody have a youth tag for 20B pigs this fall? October 8th-14th? It will be my son's first hunt in AZ and want to make sure he has fun, whether filling his tag or messing around camp (hopefully both!!). I should be able to scout a bit these next couple weekends, and be out for the hunt Saturday the 9th through Monday the 11th. If anybody will be out there, give me a holler and maybe we can get together and make sure the youngin's have some fun!

Well after 10 days of huntin my a$$ off and putting in 70 + miles hiking up a1 almost every morning and wing mt. I finally got it done! Not the biggest bull but I’m not complaining it’ll def feel the freezer!! Had a dozen plus encounters but never could get a clean shot off saw some dandy bulls! 2 nights ago I where I ended up shooting this spike I saw the biggest bull I’ve ever seen a huge 7x7 with about 12 cows. I got in on them and was about 30 yds from the cows and the bull was up about another 20-40 yards perfectly broadside but it was about 640 and just perfect to where I wasn’t able to get him ranged and didn’t want to guess. It took a lot to make the more ethical choice and pass for the fear of wounding it and not recovering. last night went back looking for him and saw this guy bedded up snuck in as quietly as possible and got to about 40 yard and he was bedded in a triangle of trees so I didn’t have a good shot he heard me or saw me and got up walked out a little to a clearing at 37 yds so I drew back behind the tree I was standing behind waiting for him to walk out… he wasn’t walking head I held back for a good 45 second to a minute and a half and said screw it and side stepped Twice to the edge of the tree and let it fly. It was perfect height just a hair lower than mid body but come to find out I was right and hit the jugular vane. Sat and watched it spit up tons of blood the bedded and got up again barely walked 50 yds over a ridge and heard it crash! Super stoked on my first archery elk 11m is a tough tag there’s lots of elk but they’re def call shy except on A1 pretty awesome getting my father in law into a bugle fest and the experience of hunting elk in September. They’re truly a majestic animal and I’m thankful to get to chase em

My antlerless tag is now soup. I hunted 4A south of Bear Canyon Lake. Lots of bull activity- not too many cows. I got the same report from the other antlerless tag holders. I stayed up 9 days and had a great time. I never had the opportunity for a good shot- I'm a 45 yd max shooter. I had a couple of looks at 80 yd cows and 6 good looks at bulls less than 40 yds- one at 20- 6X6 muddy up to his shoulders and stinky! loved watching him for 5 minutes. Good luck to the guys still up there.

I'm sure there have been a few dozen killed in the state by now, but the chances of those being a member and having cell service are low lol. Its hot out there. A hot hunt when it has rained so much over the last 2 months that you probably can't hunt water or wallows effectively could make it tough going this year.

add some youth bull tags. even late hunts

All understandable points. If you notice in my recommendation I suggested that they either remove crossbows from archery seasons OR tighten the requirements for obtaining one. If I could think of a way to keep guys from shooting 100 yds with compounds I would be all for it. I like the Colorado muzzleloader requirements. But even just limiting scope power to 4x would do a lot.

If you want to see the Kaibab just go camp there and visit the cool stuff and do some hikes and eat cookies and milkshakes. Turkey hunting might just be a distraction from even cooler things.
