As pointed out, the reports have been a little slow, so I decided to take a break from school work and type up a short report. Tried a new unit with my hunting partner, it was awesome. His old stomping grounds that he has killed some great deer from. We were not over run with giant bucks, but had a great time and I managed to fill my tag on a cool buck on Tuesday the 25th. We hiked into an area and were sitting there glassing. I got a little chilly so I stood up and put on my light jacket. When I did that, I had two does staring at me at about 150 yards. Went back to glassing. About 30 minutes later, I pull my eyes away from my binos and see two bucks at about the same spot. "Shooter buck!" I say to Jim, as I stuff an ear plug in my ear and grab the 28. The buck is only 138 yards away and sees me moving, but there is a bush in front of me where I cant use my bipod, so I hold the rifle freehand and let it rip. I see him turn after the shot and take a few steps so I let another rip. I only had two down in the gun so pull a 3rd from the saddle bag and drill him. It happened fast so I wasn't 100% sure of the shots, but saw a bush shaking for a few seconds after the last shot so I was confident he was down. While reviewing what happened, I saw a cactus that appeared to be red and glistening. Sure enough, covered in blood. When we got to the blood, it looked like someone poured a 5 gallon bucket. Somehow, this buck took the 180 Hybrid from my 28 through both shoulders with a massive hole in his chest and made it 30-40 yards before going down.

Can’t get the video to play but these are 3 bucks from last weekend at like 800 yards. Front and back are in velvet and middle one was rubbed. I went out to some new stuff Saturday and didn’t see any deer but did cut a good sized track. 44° in the desert yesterday morning at 6am. Man I can’t wait for opening morning!!

So, I’m with my 13yr son on Thursday evening in unit 7 scouting where we’ve seen some recent and bucks before. You could hear a chopper off in the distance and all of a sudden, this guy just plops down about 75 yards from us, sits for 8 minutes and goes right back up. This was also right across from a burn area that we hunt too so I got a double gut punch. Well, we didn’t see any deer around in what was turned into a temporary helipad over the next two days… rrrr. We still managed to have an awesome time out and put some crazy miles on the boots getting remote. Elk, pronghorn and does were in no short supply and must have had over 50+ does in sight on opening day, with no bucks to be found minus a funny little fork. It’s just insane how many does are in that unit. We hiked just over 18 miles in three days and glassed up or bumped at least 15 groups of does. I’m going to try and get sick at work this week and head back up for a day or so with my son and hopefully fill his tag. I’m guessing by now all the decent deer in the area have gotten pushed way up and way out from where we’ve normally seen them.

Once a person, regardless of age or residency, completes an AZ Hunter Education Course (emphasis on completes) they earn a permanent bonus point. That is their one and only such bonus point ever. This new online course does not add an additional point, it’s a vehicle to provide opportunity to an adult to earn the PBP without having to travel to AZ to take a course and complete it by participating in a field day. Anyone, resident or nonresident, can still come to AZ and take a hunter education course or complete our course online with a field day and earn the point for the nominal class fee. It is a convenience for adults and if a resident would rather pay $150 to get the bonus point than attend a class, that’s their choice. Remember, we do not require hunters 14 and older to take hunter Ed and a this new course is not going to satisfy a Hunter Education Requirement in another state, it’s simply for educational purposes and to facilitate an adult earning the PBP. For years the AZGFD has been able to glean data from surveys and from in-person attendees of the Nonresident Supplemental Class we have hosted and taught in Golden Valley, AZ at the Mohave Sportsmans Club. The vast majority of the participants were nonresident hunters. The financial commitment to attend for anyone outside reasonable driving distance was considerable with plane tickets, vehicle rental, and lodging. They spent far more than $300 and I will admit to a bit of surprise at that final price for the course, I had thought it to wind up being at least $500 for nonresidents. The course has been in the works conceptually for almost two years and a lot of serious thought and work went into its creation. Hopefully the Department will see a lot of sales and revenue from it. The question is will other states finally see the potential for the same for their game & fish departments? Just remember, there is NO 2nd bonus point for anyone, earn one and done. I am sure some folks will take this course then cry foul they thought they were getting “another bonus point”. The AZGFD has been very clear that is not the case, customers need to read and be aware that if they already have a bonus point, they will not get a 2nd point for completing this course. The course isn’t a gimme either. The student can not just blow through the content to a testing area and take a test. They can cover the material and then have two attempts to pass the final exam. If they aren’t successful, they are required to take the course again and pay the fee. Sorry for the lengthy explanation, just want to clear up the “we can get a 2nd bonus point” misconception. . 22-250, Rem. 700 with Bushnell Scope Chief. $200.00 Less than 50% of it's value! Really nice guy! And now the dispute on who is first, post vs pm rises up! Which trump's which? Which do you send first? What are the rules? I've been on both ends. Should there be a set rule?
