I tell my wife this every time we drive past that nonsense and it is the frustrating thing about the "wild horses" that are getting alfalfa hay every day which in the wildlife spectrum is against the law to feed wild animals!!! And the rape job those horses have done in that area is horrendous...........

1" Worn down spurs on an AZ Merriam I would guess 5 year old bird. I think spur length and condition is the best way to age a wild turkey and is how I do it. Turkey weight is interesting, the two year old AZ toms I have taken usually go 21 pounds and have more fat. 3 year old AZ birds have less fat and seem to be less focused on food and eating have been in the 19 to 20 pound range. 4 year old birds have more meat less fat and are 22 to 23 pounds. 5 year old birds are 24 to 26 pounds. I always find it interesting that a 2 year old bird in my experience almost always out weigh a 3 year old bird.

This is what really chaps my butt! These people bought private land right next to this area and are using this private land as a stable for their so called "wild horses". SR 87 just west of Bush Hwy exit. Total BS.... they have domesticated these horses and are claiming ownership of them. Exclusive access to their stable......using our National Forest as their grazing area. Not sure what kind of permits they have with the NF to be able to access here and place hay on Public National Forest.

I was in unit 1 from Wednesday into yesterday and only saw 1 horse. In years past I saw dozens of horses in the same area.

About an inch each side and pretty worn down/broken. 10” beard. My digital fish scale had him at 25.10. Not sure what he was eating, as there was zero acorn crop in 27. But his fat kept him from blowing away. Ha

I have been looking into the Williams Westen Globe site also, heard a lot of good things about them. I drew a NM 6B Valles Caldera Muzzy bull tag. Good luck on your hunt!

Congrats on a beauty! Must have caught him in between wind gusts! Sounds like my roof is about to blow off today.

Nice looking heavy bird. Most AZ toms I have found to be in the 19 to 21 pound range and have only seen 2 or 3 that were 24 plus. How long were his spurs?

It is still working great no changes. I would still like a larger battery generator, but there is no real reason to buy one. I have also learned where I go camping and the duration is important - if there is good cell service determined by scouting - I don't use Starlink but most 1 week or longer trips - I activate it. the ROAM plan i started with Starlink changed, now I pay $5 a month, the speed is real slow, all that can be done text from it, maybe check email, but cannot make a call or much else, if I activate to a faster plan, I go with unlimited for a month, then change back to the $5 a month. there is a 100 GB plan for less, but if I make a Microscoft Teams call (for work) or if we fire up the TV, youtube or 100 GB goes quick.
