In April 2024, I was fortunate to draw an off-range oryx tag for March 2025. I’ve had a whirlwind year since drawing and timing couldn’t have been better for the hunt. With that said, we encountered severe winds with no sign of letting up, which made things challenging. With the wind gusts, everything was bedded. Due to the flat terrain, glassing for extended periods was unproductive. We would glass and go, glass and go, constantly moving. The wind gusts were so brutal that any tracks on the ground were erased, making it easier to gauge a fresh track. So we changed plans and drove roads looking to cut tracks which we eventually did. We found a group of three at about 400 yards and they had us pegged. This happened twice more with the ranges increasing each time. They eventually had enough of us and bolted. Fast-forward to the late evening, and we were able to find the same group again at 1000 yards. They had picked up another oryx, and they were now four, with only one being unbroken. A long stalk later and I had my oryx. Five minutes later, it was pitch dark. Good luck to everyone on the upcoming NM draw!

I would take a hard look at a Toyota Highlander or Grand Highlander.

Wealthy landowners buy checkerboard parcels for a reason, basically 100% ownership for half the price. This would kill that. Fantastic and fingers crossed this spread nationwide.

Thank you. I drew it after three years as a non-resident. I have some NM friends who haven't drawn even after 15 years of applying. Luck isn't always on my side, but I'm forever grateful when it is.

I constantly had people tell me how amazing oryx was as table fare. I enjoyed the tenderloins and backstrap trim for lunch the other day. This is the best wild game meat I've ever had. Fresh rosemary, garlic, Dijon, sea salt and black pepper then grilled over pecan.

Congrats Vincent - I also drew this hunt, after applying every year since 1997. I drew permit #1. I'm very excited but nervous having never been there and will only have the week prior to opener to scout, but will be there until the last day if needed. Hoping for a lot of action and to see some nice bulls. Good luck to you and share some photos of the country if you're over scouting this summer.

California is my top choice. Close to the beach. Close to the mountains. Low taxes. Moderate politics. You guys should give it a run.

The old vaquero had the larger frame and cylinder size as the post 62ish Blackhawks and super Blackhawks. The change in frame size all had to do with the advent of the 44 mag cartridge. The new vaqueros went back to the 57-62 sized Blackhawk frame and cylinder size to give a more colt SAA feel and weight. The only exception is new vaqueros in 44 mag still use the large frame, so either way, new or old vaquero, this is a large frame. The introduction of the vaquero was post 3 screw and transfer bar conversion, so all vaqueros regardless of new or old have 2 pins and a transfer bar. For anyone interested, the vaquero always demanded a premium over say a standard Blackhawk as they always had nicer features such as a steel ejector housing and grip frame. For the asking price this is a screaming deal.

I will put money on the same state that couzer is in and that I would like to be in. I am from Idaho and love it up there. Winters aren't my favorite but even those are not bad depending on which part of the state you are in. But that said, Arizona isn't too bad. I have lived in much worse places.

True & Agree IA Born. Just “hoping” that the 9th Circuit will follow suit. Of course, it’s the 9th Circuit, so one never knows! 😂

Run BFG KO2 load range E on my F150, run 80psi when pulling my 24ft travel trailer. When I get to camp I drop the tire pressure back down to 32psi. Air back up to 80 when pulling trailer back.

Congrats again. We have been overdue for any kind of hunt. You definitely deserved it. I am looking forward to seeing the mount when it is done.
