11 pointsThomas was able to take his 3rd cow in as many years on opening morning. We were able to spot a group of elk within just a few minutes of glassing about 800 yards away. After closing the distance to 333 yards, crawling the last 10 yards, we were able to get into a shooting position. We couldn't lay prone or use a pack. Our only option was to take a standing shot because we were in some thick Manzanita. We set up the 6.5 Creedmore on a tripod using a triclaps and shooting sticks to get rock solid. Boom cow down at 7am opening morning. Big thanks to Thomas's uncle Adam aka BigBrowns for helping out with this hunt. Very blessed to have some great hunting buddies.

2 pointsBrass dissipates heat so fast, there is no need to quench. Just adds time to your prep to dry it thoroughly inside and out afterwards. Quenching is for hardening/tempering, and brass doesn't temper. I use the MAP gas torch and deep socket method as well. Done about 30k rounds that way. Depending on brass and cartridge, anywhere from 3-6 seconds per case. There is not set amount of time for every case. I am north central Phoenix area, but if you need help, let me know. I can knock them out for you fairly quickly.

2 pointsIf they live in an area with snow, they obviously have to be somewhere in the snow. However, like most animals, they will seek out the warmest area within the habitat in which they live, which is usually the areas the sun it hitting.

1 pointI've owned this truck since 2002- gave it to my daughter in high school and it got her through college. Now that she has a big girl job, she's ready to retire the Ford-a-saurus. As stated in the title: 1997 ford F250 4x4 with the 7.3 powerstroke diesel. Automatic transmission. 313k miles. Has some blemishes but all and all she's a good ol' truck. within the last 18 months we've replaced the HPOP, AC compressor, and glow plugs. She had an unfortunate run in with a bollard in a bank drive thru but body is straight otherwise. I have other pictures I will send to anyone interested. call or text 480-213-6584 Thanks for looking. Dave

1 pointI was able to harvest this FREAK bull Saturday with the help of Jimmy Mullins and Jeff Wright. Watching the two of them work together was amazing. They had me in bulls all day Friday and Saturday morning. This bull was bugling and Jeff stayed back about 30 yards and Jimmy and I slowly crept forward until we could finally see the bull. Jeff let out another bugle and the bull began thrashing a tree. He quickly turned and started walking towards Jeff. I was there to bring home a typical as close to the 400 mark as possible. Jimmy knew that and told me he may not score the highest but what do you think about freaks?.................. I had about 5 seconds to make a decision and when Jimmy stopped the bull in the only small opening we had I tapped my release. The shot was true and we watched him tip over only 40 yards away. Finally putting our hands on this bull was incredible and then to find out we had a picture of him back in June was even better. Enjoy the pictures and if you ever get a chance hunt with Jimmy and Jeff, they truly make magic happen out there!!!

1 point100 miles back roads?? That means your spending to much time on the road. Get out and listen, and hike away from roads.

1 pointHummm, Dinosaur Mountain during the rut. Some good glassing spots on that course and usually see deer on the back side by the snack shack.....

1 pointFor a quicker shot, I shoot right off the tripod, but I toss a lightweight shooting bag over it so I don't have hard to hard contact. I shoot the local PRS matches to improve my skills, and I use the shooting bag over all sorts of stuff. I taught two new hunters how to shoot off the top of a tripod in the kneeling position. Dad carried the tripod, pointed one leg towards the deer and set the bag on top of it. The kids were taught to point the rifle the way the front leg was pointing, and how to find the deer over the top of the scope and then move to the sight picture. They were very fast to acquire the target and made perfect shots. I had them practice with my .22 rifle, and it made a huge difference.
