In Lakeside, this has been one of the best monsoons we've had in a while. Raining almost daily and the ground is soaked. Got a Unit 1 bull tag and for sure the tops are going well.

Yes and the Inflation Reduction act. Amazing how a culture that can't tell an innie from an outtie thinks they are going to control nature

30 foot rule is as bad as the motor vehicle use map. The 2 inch by 2 inch road closed stickers work real well. Might be the dumbest thing I've ever seen them do. What happened to blading the front of the road and putting a 4 foot sign in the middle of the road? Seems like they used to do it that way and now they expect everyone to know which roads are open and closed. I'm sorry but your 2 inch sticker is useless.

The squatters and homeless have overtaken the forest around Flagstaff. I have no problem with the 2 week rule.

We got hit in unit 5A a few years back in a heavily used camp, this ranger lady had her a new shiny range finder and made us move the horse trailer 20 ft closer to the road. We camped there 25 plus times and never heard anything ever again. The squatting camp spots is a real bummer though, I get it but when you get the last crappy camp hole on a F.R. and camp for 5 days and the 5 trailers in the good spots sit empty the whole trip it really wears on the nurves.

I'm a huge proponent on cracking down on the 2 week rule - the woods should not be free storage and we all have gone up 2, 3 + weeks apart and seen the same abandon trailer sitting there. Those jerks dominating those spots puts more pressure on new spots to be 'opened up' and more and more habitat misused or people pulling in and camping on top of you - not my idea of fun either. Tkt them after 2 and tow after 3 if you ask me.

Don't know where these came from or who owns them, they might b fiv-bs and about 3-4 weeks ago.

Good if your home. Not good if the ups/fedex is 50 miles away

The ball or the pin? The hitch pin is in double shear and rated to take the weight of pulling trailers. It also won't become a large projectile if it breaks like the ball or hitch would if it breaks. There are better options than the pin if you have dedicated recovery gear, but how many people really have that all the time. Everyone who has a hitch has the pin, and using the pin is going to be much safer than using the hitch or ball. Even if the pin breaks it weighs like 6 oz, and is not in a direct path with the strap. A ball or in this case the hitch weighs alot more and is in a direct line with the direction of pull. The ball is also in a single shear configuration which isn't good.

You don't use the hitch. You pull the hitch out and put the loop of the strap in the tube and secure the hitch pin thru the loop. Then you out a heavy jacket, blanket, or something if possible on the strap or winch line.

I actually stopped by a water catch last week that has had 3-4 cameras for years and they are gone. There’s finally space for me to put one up I guess.

My kids asked me the other day if we are going to do any. No kids, we aren't, because Game and Fish doesn't like you, or fun. No fun allowed.

Griffin and I hit the road with high hopes and much excitement. We connected with 2 locals who volunteered to help us out. You never know what to expect. Does this mean here’s a dusty 2 track I once saw a deer at or rolling out the red carpet. We were humbled by the level of commitment to help us. Each day was filled with hours of glassing and holding out for a good one. We passed many bucks and held the bar high. Finally on day 4 we spotted a heavily palpated 4x4 about a mile away and 800-1000 feet higher. We watched him graze and knew he’d be the buck of dreams if we would be able to hang our tag on him. We formulated a game plan and off we went. 4.5 hours later we sat above the thicket. We decided to wait him out. Unfortunately the gray ghost gave us the slip and we never saw him again. It was an epic 2 hour hike out in the dark with our egos bruised but our hearts full of the experience. The next day was to be our last in AZ so we decided to take the first legal buck we saw. Finally on the opposite hillside we spotted a buck and moved into shooting range just as the buck disappeared into bottom. He was about 200 away. As we sat there picking apart the hillside just looking our local friend hissed “he’s right there!” 100 yards away the buck emerged from the thicket and stood quartering to knowing something was up. Quickly griffin steadied on the sticks and the crack of the rifle broke the silence. No buck in sight. We decided to give it 30 minutes and give it a look. No blood at all but we spread out and began grid searching. Just a few short minutes later we located the buck and the celebration was on! I want to say I’m so humbled to the 2 gentlemen who took time out of their schedules and spent 5 days helping us chase down the gray ghost we are forever in your debt. We came as strangers but now I consider you good friends! The hunting community is filled with good people who are the salt of the earth with kindness in their hearts! Cant wait to return to AZ next year!!
