I dont mind the quota. Without it and without mandatory reporting, nobody knew how many deer were being taken. Unit 1 and 27 closed after the first week last yr as well. Everyone for the most part is road hunting and smashing the first legal buck they see. Im sure it was the same way before the quota.

I have enough witnesses to my misses. Don't need to film them too.

I was given permission to metal detect in an abandoned mining camp yesterday. Mostly tin cans and broken bottles were dug up but I did find one intact perfume bottle. I started finding where the crucibles from the assessors office were tossed and was hoping to find an intact one when I hit a good target. Wasn't attracted to a magnet, nor was the oxidation and crust rusty at all. Too big to be a coin and weighs exactly 2toz. Put it in acid and vinegar overnight. Tests out .925 silver. Why was it there in a 19th century dump? It's obviously been poured into a crude mold or crucible. Could the crucible have been tossed out with the silver still in it? Normally the crucibles are crushed and reran through the smeltering process because 100% of the mineral content is not poured out, leaving small amounts of precious metals behind. However it got there, this mine produced 250000 ounces of silver in its day. I can now account for two of those ounces.

I sure thought today was Wednesday! Guess I just want Dove season to start. HOWEVER, Taco Tuesday is not bad either.

Seems that way. I'd like to see some data on it, but I don't think the game and fish has any idea. Everywhere I hunt I've seen lots more pressure and lots of young bucks killed. Every young naive buck near a road is in trouble. Every unit that closes puts more pressure on surrounding units. I'm all for a draw for archery, it's not the same experience it was, it's declining drastically. Sad to say but my kids will never experince what it once was or could be with proper management. I'd prefer a draw and a better quality hunt.

Good luck to everyone heading out this weekend! Here are some tips on properly taking care of velvet antlers: Keep Cool: Keep the buck cool, ideally in the shade, to slow down decomposition. Heat and blood can speed up the process. Drain Blood: If you're staying in the backcountry for a while, drain the blood from the antlers. Some recommend hanging the buck upside down by the skull and making pinholes in the tips of each tine with a knife to let the blood drain out. Protect from Flies: Cover the antlers to keep flies away, but avoid using a plastic bag. Instead, use a deer meat bag to allow for air circulation. Avoid Handling: Don't touch the velvet too much, as this can damage its appearance. Avoid holding the buck by its antlers when taking photos; pick it up by the ears instead. When packing out or transporting the antlers, don't drag them or let anything rub against the velvet. Wrap and Secure: When securing the antlers to your pack, wrap them just below the base with a soft, thick, breathable material, and then strap or tie rope around it. As soon as possible, either deep freeze the antlers or take them to a taxidermist. If you need a euro done or have any questions feel free to give me a call. 928-595-1554. I’m located in the East Valley.

5th day of archery season and not a single ‘archery opener’ post? (Unless I missed it…) 288K posts in the classifieds section. We are officially Craigslist! 🙄😂

My thought too that is why I was surprised on the take above. Has to be saving dozens of deer in those units (1, 27, 20a) and then saving a few here and there for seed in most of the others.

I saw a couple on FB looked like could have been 1. One of them was a 4x4.

I got a shotkam. Haven’t used it much. Only time I’ve used it was to shoot pigeons while we were training dogs. So far it seems good. I see some potential in it helping my shooting.

Interesting takes... I was of the uneducated opinion that the 1.5 year olds were getting killed at the same or almost same rate anyway plus a total higher % of deer before trail cam ban and harvest objective making both beneficial to overall deer and quality of deer in the state in just a few years. You are saying the rush to get it done in 'your unit' is adding to the kill the first thing I see because I don't have any patterned and I need to get it done before it closes vs those tags going unfilled?

The quota plus no trail cams is a recipe for killing every 1.5 year old deer in the state.

It actually closes tomorrow at sundown. This quota thing is a joke. Every spike in the state is in deep trouble.

I have a pair of Nikon binos you are welcome to have that my kids used to use. I can send pics when I get home if interested.

Been a classified site for years... If someone posts something hunting related there's half a dozen regulars who tear them down from their recliners. Before I die I'm gonna buy my coffin on CWT. Ed F

The mountain with deer was socked in most of my hunt. We did get a nice Billy though.
