Is $7k+ worth it for 30”?

Went to San Carlos today and we caught 44 crappie and 4 bass from the bank.

Glad to hear everyone having a good time at San Carlos. Don't burn yourself out at one lake, a little birdie told me the big bass are biting at Talkalai and we just stocked Point of Pines and Seneca Lakes with some good looking trout the last two days. DAN

Quite the contrary. We should be doing everything possible to keep fees as low as possible for everyone. We don't want hunting to become a rich man's sport. If the average, working class hunter feels like they can no-longer participate then they will drop out and stop supporting everything that goes with betterment of wildlife or conservation. Some of you may cheer that hunters might drop out, but we need people who hunt and support the North American model of wildlife management to be active participants. Otherwise, all the Karen's who are anti hunters will have their way. I fear Utah's new fees will encourage other states to follow.

Such an amazing tag and I know you said you can't justify hiring a guide but I highly recommend it... This unit a guide can easily be the difference between a 330 bull and a 360 plus bull. I bull in my avatar was an 8x7 I was lucky enough to take in 23n on the late hunt.

I've worked with both 9th and 10th circuits for over 21+ years. I know enough to know its a crap-shoot with both.

California is my top choice. Close to the beach. Close to the mountains. Low taxes. Moderate politics. You guys should give it a run.

Wealthy landowners buy checkerboard parcels for a reason, basically 100% ownership for half the price. This would kill that. Fantastic and fingers crossed this spread nationwide.

In April 2024, I was fortunate to draw an off-range oryx tag for March 2025. I’ve had a whirlwind year since drawing and timing couldn’t have been better for the hunt. With that said, we encountered severe winds with no sign of letting up, which made things challenging. With the wind gusts, everything was bedded. Due to the flat terrain, glassing for extended periods was unproductive. We would glass and go, glass and go, constantly moving. The wind gusts were so brutal that any tracks on the ground were erased, making it easier to gauge a fresh track. So we changed plans and drove roads looking to cut tracks which we eventually did. We found a group of three at about 400 yards and they had us pegged. This happened twice more with the ranges increasing each time. They eventually had enough of us and bolted. Fast-forward to the late evening, and we were able to find the same group again at 1000 yards. They had picked up another oryx, and they were now four, with only one being unbroken. A long stalk later and I had my oryx. Five minutes later, it was pitch dark. Good luck to everyone on the upcoming NM draw!

Don't forget to buy that lifetime hunting license. I'm in Idaho right now and this would be my top pick, or Alaska.

Moved away from AZ two times. Texas and NM. I will tell you the grass is not always greener. Texas is all private and NM is beautiful but as corrupt and crime ridden as any place I have been. My wife travels a lot and lives in different states from months to years at a time(mostly east of Mississippi river). She has never been anyplace that she would choose over AZ. Most people take our weather for granted. I agree, Maricopa county pretty much sucks but there are far worse places to live. Carry on.

Yeah, cause that’s the same thing. Ok.

Sounds good until you need public support for a federal issue like wild horses or wolf or grizzly bear reintroduction. If you are setting NR prices to appeal only to the 2,000 highest bidders for elk but the other 100 million people in the west don’t give a crap about your state and you are screwed.

100% agree for Arizona Residents, but 100% disagree on nonresidents. Supply and demand on out of state tags, they need to drastically increase the price on out of state tags until it levels out.

I had never hunted deer in Arizona before. I asked my friend how big Coues deer were. He said if you can see antlers, it's a good one. This was about 1985 near Geronimo's Surrender Site.

We need to do the same here in Az!

I wish I knew how important good "in the field" pics were when I shot this one. My first buck in 1985.

My first, and ONLY Coues deer. I am a muley hunter. Applied for the wrong number and drew a Coues tag back a long time ago. 2001 or 2002 I think. Being a Mule deer hunter, I had no clue what a Coues was supposed to look like. I saw this buck for 5 days and passed on him hoping for something big. On my last day to hunt, he was the biggest I had seen, so I hiked out and popped him. I was quite disappointed at how small he was. If I had only known then what I know now....and if I would have had the money to get a shoulder mount.....

Incredible buck - first or best! I'm also amazed but not surprised that your camera equipment and/or photography at the time was decades ahead of every one else.

Might as well not even have a non resident fee, just open it up as the same as residents so we can have public support across the nation.
