What a different day then the past few. Birds fired up and we had one come in right off the roost. Came in with a few gobbles and stayed about 50yards just out of range. Decided to go to different area 20 miles away and man did it pay off. Started with one tom and five hens strutting and couldnt close the deal then a solo tom about 1/4 mile down road and she made a perfect shot. Prob best moment i have ever had hunting. what a feeling seeing her so excited and pumped about getting a bird! I will never forget this!

Well we had a blast. The night before opener we found some birds roosted on a easy access point. We woke up at 4am and and we frooze a little opening morning waiting for these birds to fly down. When they hit the ground I wasn't able to call them back. I fought with one bird for 15 minutes or so but he walked off. We next headed to our plan B spot. I was able to call a single hen in, and then a flock up the hill came to check out my live decoy. Hens and Jake's, no long beards. My older 12 year old boy could have easily taken a shot at a Jake but he waited for his little brother who just took hunters ED/Field day last week. The 10 year old shot and nailed a Jake, but unfortunately my 12 year old had no shot on the other Jakes due to couple hens not giving him a clear shot. Few hours later we had called in 11 Jake's off in a Canyon, they all came into my bad calling and my 12 year old was able to make a 20 yard shot on one. We were done opening day, we were extremely lucky I would say. Saw some long beards but for the life of me they kept hanging up. Watching my boys reactions and working together was priceless. EDIT: and thanks to Ammon for your calls, i used your mouth reed, pot, and box calls.

@oz31p Thanks for the minnows. I had a pretty good day and still had leftovers. 7:30-9:30am was slow down by dam. Fish moved out w cold front. Went up lake to cove w submerged trees. They were out in 15-20 ft hanging in brush. Had steady action. Turned on after 2. Water warmed up and they were feeding. What a beautiful day w light wind and pleasant temps! Wish I lived closer to SC!

That is my newest call that I developed last year. Three and a half reeds of latex. Three different thickness of latex. The cut out shape is called a ghost cut. I like to name my calls after Arizona places so being a ghost cut I named it after the logging camp ghost town of "Maverick" in the white mountains.

Day before opener sunset was at 7pm, I saw birds roost between 6:30-6:40pm. Birds were talking all the way till about 6:20pm right before they roosted. Once roosted, they were talking again untill 7:30pm..... i did not stay any later than 7:30pm. Not sure if that answers your question.

They are probably like the snowbirds in Yuma. We have more and more every year that become full time residents and quit migrating back north for the summer.

Awesome bird! This was the mouth call of yours that sealed the deal for us. At one point, 1 of the flocks started to turn the other direction. I yelped at them with this one and they turned instantly and came right to us.

My son got a shot but didn't connect. It was an awesome morning with birds responding well. The weather sucked but the action kept us out there

I work in restoration construction and have dealt with hundreds of property claims across the state. In my experience, Farmers is the best for homeowners and State Farm is the absolute worst
