3 pointsNot one bit of guilt!! I don’t have thank anyone or explain what I do to you! I see you’re still worried people will look your Instagram up and make fun of you posing in the mirror! Pretty much what you are a poser!!

3 pointsIt’s a 300 RUM. The shot was only around 100yds didn’t need to even hit it with the range finder. The buck was working his was towards us. Ive still gotta long road ahead of me. They are watching a couple spots. One on my thigh and one on my hip. They aren’t having me do chemo or radiation for now. I do blood work every two months and a CT scan and chest X-ray every four months. I’ve gotta do this for the next 5 years. And last but no least I do have the most awesome girlfriend there is. She hunts with me. We rope together. And golf all the time. I wouldn’t want to do anything without her! I’m blessed!!

3 pointsThanksgiving night update: We scouted a couple more spots this afternoon, but we could hardly get into the Hannagan Meadow area. Snow was about 8 inches deep and was coming down steady when we tried to make our way in. With another 16+ inches projected to land over the next 24 hours I’m not sure we’ll be able to get back in there on the south side. We drove a couple of roads as the snow really started coming down a little later in the day. We checked out a couple of smaller canyons and ran into a cow and her baby. Not sure where all the bulls went. But it was encouraging to see quite a bit of sign and the elk (even though they’re not what we’re after). We’ll be up well before light tomorrow and hope there’s not a foot of snow on the ground. Weather reports seem to change every hour but some of the worst I’ve read project 1+ feet above 7,000 feet with 2-3 feet projected higher up and 50mph wind gusts. Not sure that’s the best elk hunting weather, but we’ll be out there making the best of an iffy weather situation. Hope you all enjoyed a wonderful thanksgiving meal, and I’ll update tomorrow!

2 pointsHere is my 2019 Az strip mule deer. It only took me 19 years to draw the tag!! This was one of the best hunts I’ve ever had! Mostly because I was able to share it with my girlfriend who was there for the scouting trips and the Hunt. She was so excited to be there and watch me take a buck of a lifetime! I couldn’t have done it without her! After finding out I was diagnosed with cancer and had surgery a couple of months ago I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to make the hunt. She was there every step for me!! This Buck is OUR buck!!

2 pointsGood grief----A tip to the flatlanders, use the snow to your advantage. Good storm like this, the elks will migrate to winter quarters. Just park your nice warm vehicle on the migration route and let them come to you. Unit 27 Middle Mt. to Blue River route. Unit 1 Milligan Valley route & South fork route to name a few.

2 pointsFirst, and most important, congratulations on beating cancer. The biggest and most important accomplishment ever. Second, great girlfriend for being by your side the whole way! She is a keeper. Third, fantastic buck! Great mass, good forks, good width, couple little extras, very nice. Have any specifics? Rifle info? (I know it was a Remington, saw that in your shout out list, and Nosler 165s, so I assume a .30-06, .300WM or similar?) Shot distance? Bullet placement and performance? Lastly, this great thread turned into a sh!+show. Sorry it got derailed from the important aspect of the above three items I mentioned.

2 pointsHappy Thanksgiving! It's my favorite holiday. It makes us focus on what we have and be grateful for it instead of thinking about what we don't have and feeling bad about not having it. Thank you CWT.com for almost 12 years of advice, insight, stories, pictures, and laughs. Tempus fugit. And thank you to Amanda and the moderators for a great site and all your work keeping spammers at bay and keeping topics from going of the rhubarb when we passions flare and negativity slips in. (And Amanda, I ordered my second batch CWT.com calendars. They are big hit as Christmas presents. Darren is a great photographer.)

2 pointsWhen I first got this buck on camera early in July I knew he had a messed up right side. I really didn’t think he would be much of a buck. Didn’t really give him much thought. Beginning of August he was starting to look better but still not interested in hunting him. By the end of August I decided he was the buck I wanted. Problem was he was in low mesquite county and no real place to glass him up. I knew I would have to sit a blind on water. Opening morning I went to my blind at daylight at 10:15 I was standing up stretching and he walked in 20 yards away. As I sat down and grabbed my bow he winded me and left. 2nd and 3rd day sat all day he never came in . I was burned out sitting in that heat in a blind. I decided to let him sit and check my camera in a few days to see if he returned. He finally returned 7 days after he winded me. I sat day 8-9 with no luck. On Labor Day I decided to hang out with the family and sit the blind the next 2 days. That evening on Labor Day I went in to adjust my seat in my blind. That way everything would be ready for the next 2 days. As I was walking into the blind as soon as I saw the water tank I was shocked he was getting water. A small buck with him heard me and ran a few yards then stopped. I ranged the big buck he was 62 yards. I sat down in the grass and he went back to drinking. I drew back stood up I knew this would probably be my last chance since last time I spooked him he disappeared 7 days. I put my 60 high and let it go. Arrow hit a little high but hit the spine and he dropped. I guessed him to be 115-118 but was very happy once I walked up on him he was bigger than I thought. Hardest part was sitting in a blind daylight tell dark in 105 temperatures.

1 pointIt's been a lot of years trying in NM and a couple in AZ and I finally managed an archery coues. my first velvet buck as well. I went In for a few days opening weekend and saw a lot of bucks, even had a few spikes and does in range but nothing I could justify shooting. When I got a few days off my girlfriend encouraged me to go back in. I saw a lot of deer but still got my but kicked for about 3 days in the back country. The last day I decided to take it easy, slept in, dried my gear out by the fire for a few hours, struck camp and started hiking out around 9 or 10. I wanted to stop and do a little glassing on the way out but before I could even get to my ridge I spotted a nice buck across the canyon from me. I tried to slide off of a steep hill to cut him off in the bottom but before I made it far a train of about 8 horse riders came down the trail between him and I. Naturally he ghosted, a few does ran out the far side and I gave up. I decided to drop down under cover of their commotion, hit the bottom and slowly worked my way up canyon expecting nothing but still moving slow and quiet just in case. Sure enough despite the riders he had kept right along his line and I spotted him in the bottom. I was able to connect a shot at 33 and had him out in a few hours. beat the heck out of packing an elk out! looks like it wont let me upload a file. I'll try to get a pic in a follow up

1 pointYou really are that stupid aren’t you Mathews!! You just can’t let it go!! My name is Jason also. He was talking to me genius!! Tannert... Kip is my cousin.

1 pointKeep hiking and glassing. I think there is a good chance bulls will be up all day if the wind isn’t blowing a hundred mph. With the snow and wind be careful. A few years ago a late bull hunter was killed when a tree fell on his tent during a big storm.

1 pointand the guy that wants to start a go fund me to buy the other buck.
