It was a very slow start and hot. Maybe that’s normal - I don’t know. The last week was real good and there were nice bulls around. I passed this bull earlier in the hunt because of a couple others I’d seen. But on the last day - I figured I’d better shoot if I wanted to take an elk home with me. The other non resident from Oregon got a real monster. I met a lot of nice people here and made some new friends - stayed in AZ from 8/30 through the whole hunt. My elk is all on ice and I’ll be working my way home today. It was a really great hunting experience.
Thanks to everyone who had given me tips and advice. I was hiking back to my truck one day and met Vincent - while he was cutting up his elk meat at his camp.
Well guys no stalks tonight. Glassed up a few herds far but just couldn’t tell the size of the bulls. About 50 elk tonight and a giant herd in the neighborhoods. One thing about city hunts is a lot of locals protect there elk. Back at it in the am.

Well guys eventful morning but no success. Out at 4 am and saw some herds and no bugles at all. We r lucky the first week so not chasing ghosts. 1st heard about 50 elk and 2 small bulls. Next heard had 1 small 4x4 and rest cows. We decided to get high before light and finish some coffee. Right at first light glass up a small herd but with the fog just couldn’t see a bull. Kept glassin. Right below us about mile out find a bull sniffing the air. About 30 min later my son glasses up a herd and boom there he is. A decent shooter. Go time. And guys I am not a trophy hunter at all. Ask many guys on here. But 1st week I want to try on something decent. Get in truck and head over there. I have a general idea where they r. Will I just missed them. I really needed another person on hill guiding me in and could have had a chance. Well I start hearing a bugle and I head that way. Well there was a hunter carrying a foxpro in his hand and just letting bugles rip. Scared my bull right out of there. Here he is slipping away. Breakfast time.
Burned most of my vacation time in Alaska so had only 4 days to get it done. Covered in bulls everyday and this bull came on a string to some estrus cow calls. Shot him at 18 yards and again at 32. Magical morning in the elk woods.
30” dead pine he ran past after shots 👊

Definitely looking forward to it, friend and I have the tag. Got all our good buddies coming up to help glass and help with camp chores. Going to be a good time
So I ended up going with the Nx8 and the clicks in the dial are more crisp but the leupold my dad has is more clear, not a huge crazy difference but it definitely is more clear
I was sitting around waiting for something with horns to show up yesterday and got hit with a hail storm and so much rain. The clay was sticking to everything afterwards.
Priest and University we got pounded from 12:30 to 2. Water was running down our street 5' from the curb on both sides of the street. Priest and Rio Salado had two lanes flooded probably 5" deep.
My place in Mesa near 87and CC has a few inches of standing water with some local street flooding.
Our offices in Avondale got hit heavy and even had hail.
Our Buckeye location, nada.
Chandler, quick and gone. Same in Mesa.
Generally, if you got hit, it was moderate to heavy.
Plenty of accidents on the freeways today!
