One day before I die we’ll put this old wive’s tale to rest once and for all...the correlation of rutting and temperature is purely coincidental. It has 100% to do with daylight (aka “photoperiod”).

Well it all started when my credit card got hit for $300 from G&F and i knew that could only mean one thing. I wont even say how many points i had because it is just ridiculous how lucky i got but i had under 10 points. I had very little experience in the unit i drew so i knew it was going to be a lot of work and hours beating up my truck and sweating in the heat but that was fine with me. I met some great guys from this site and some of the past hunters in the unit that really helped me out a lot. I don't need to mention names but they know who they are and i appreciate all of the help. Scouting proved to be much more challenging than I expected. My unit received record rainfall which was very good for the area but it did seem to spread some of the animals out. Fast forward to the hunt and opening morning had me and my hunting buddies on the same glassing spot we were at the weekend before and after about an hour i glassed up a nice Ram. My goal for the hunt was to shoot a nice mature Ram and this one looked great to me so off i went on my first and last stalk on a desert sheep. Made it to 400 yards and waited forever for them to stand back up because they were out of view from my shooting location. Once he stood up I started shooting away and hit him a good three times. He went out of view but the guys i had watching him said he was hit hard and after a couple minutes the boys yelled in the radio that he was dead. I couldn't be happier with him as he is a great ram but it is a little bitter sweet that it is all over. Time to start putting in for Rocky Mountain Sheep.... G&F aged him at 8 years old. Thanks again to my family, and friends for all the help. Hope everyone enjoys the pictures.

Tagged out on my first elk during the late rifle bull hunt. Moved to AZ from Texas back in 2016, hunting western big game has been the most challenging, humbling, and rewarding experience I've had as an outdoorsman.

If you have meat at WGP in Tucson, go pick it up and don't delay. I haven't been able to drop my elk off and they are turning away others because people are slow to pick up. I'm not aware of any other good options in Tucson so I have my second fridge crammed full of boned elk meat.

I would define it as one of the most enjoyable ways to spend time outside. IF you like solitude, love to spend hours behind glass, don't mind climbing and hiking up hills or down washes, don't mind stalking animals that will, in most cases laugh at you as they are running away from you and think the desert is beautiful in it's own way, then you may like it too. The vegetation is very different from on top of the rim to the lower flats. Google Hannagan Meadow. Absolutely beautiful up there in 27. If you want to experience a desert hunt, that aint it. It is full of really big, nasty, awesome country though. While most plants are mean up north and will bite, everything down in the traditional "desert" is going to attack you. Google Arizona desert. You will get a wide variety of pics and all are considered desert. Units 22 and 23 have every type of terrain you could want. Flat stuff down low, crazy rocky canyons and heavily wooded areas. Good luck and have a great hunt.

I already saw a couple on i10 and i17. They said something like Conserve and protect with a web address that I thought was wildlifehero.org but I tried looking and must have remembered it wrong. Think it was actually some sort of game and fish billboard though.

Nice pretty billboard on the side of the freeway that nobody sees cause they are going too fast or on their phones. lol

I dont think the Suns coach is the problem. That team is super young and soft! They need a vet in there ASAP. Someone to slap around these young Suns players for lack of effort. As for the Cardinals yeah coach Wilks sucks and needs to go ASAP. He's done nothing good this season. Bruce Arians had this same Cardinals team go 8-8 last season with no David Johnson & Blaine Gabbert as QB.

She did have a radio collar on. The ram was very infatuated with that ewe.

Sounds like Davis is the only commissioner that understands the draw system.

Long story short shot on top of a mountain which we knew packout would suck but what we didnt expect for it to do is go over the mtn to the other side which is dang near a cliff and die. 6 hour packout with 6 people. But job is done.

I will bet you that Pete and the boys have gotten Davis compromised just like the old man did in Utah. Davis said no to any other funding but the tag program when he said no raising of fees. Write and tell the commissioners to institute a Heritage Stamp program for $5 a year. That raises a lot more than Pete can promise and it is a permanent funding source for education. NM has done it for decades and no one refuses to buy tags there because of $5 a year. This is an obvious ploy to use the HSUS deal to get the tags they want. I recommended a poll be conducted by AZG&F asking if people would prefer a $5 Heritage Stamp to giving out tags to sell.
