My oldest son Auggie got his first deer this morning. Hiked in and got in place just in time. Glassed up a few deer then found this little guy. I said do you want to shoot a spike? He said "I'm freaking freezing, yes!". Got him set up and dialed in the scope and waited for a shot. 1 shot dropped him in his tracks, it was awesome to see through the 15s. Called Pickles to tell her the news and while he was on the phone with her a few deer right under our glassing spot busted out from under us. Of course the one taking it's time and offering some shot opportunity was a nice little 3x3! Go figure! Great morning with my boy though. Love you Auggie! You are one heck of a great kid and you make me proud! Now we gotta get grandma her first..

This morning I was able to find a really cool mulie tucked away in a wind break. Glassed up a bunch of WT does and some smaller bucks but no shooters.

They’re out and about today. Saw probably 30ish bulls this morning and my brother killed a real good one. Keep at it. It’ll happen. If you’re seeing cows and dinky bulls, look in other places.

chainsaw and shovel are your best friends if you dont have a winch or any help. Kid and I got stuck in unit 8 one muddy year turkey scouting. all we had was a shovel and chainsaw. dug a ramp cut a bunch of tree limbs and crawled right out

Thanks for your help everyone. Walked back to camp last night but the truck is still there. Have someone coming up today to help get us out depending on the conditions we may do attempt it today or tomorrow.

This snow helps keep the pepsi cold and when you get one down the meat stays cool.

My boys have certainly had some great youth hunts over the years. Turkey, elk, deer and javelina. I've shared stories and pictures of them over the years. Well, my two oldest boys are grown up but I got one more youth hunt with my youngest son, Josh. We found this buck at sunlight opening morning but after a long stalk, could only locate the does he was with. The next morning it was all Josh. I had an idea where they had gone but Josh decided to split up because he had his own idea - and he was right. It's bittersweet - I wouldn't have found this buck again, but Josh did it on his own. I'm extremely grateful for the many hunts I've had with my boys, and can only hope that as they get older, they'll still want to go hunting with the old man.

If you’re finding cows and spikes but not mature bulls you’re looking in too easy of country. Take your paper map and a highlighter and highlight a 1.5 mile band on each side of every road in the areas you wanna hunt. Then take another colored highlighter and highlight anything that remains. You’ll find that in 27 it’ll leave a lot of spaces, particularly in the southern part. Then using the topo figure out places that have decent hiking access to those areas, steep country that you can glass with out having to drop into it is a bonus.

That truck looks like it’s gonna need more then a little yank to get it out...

where are you camped? And what are you driving? We are up here for my wife’s tag, maybe I can help if we found stuff she would pass?

Years ago, it was very rare that a highway would be completely closed. The first restriction was chains or 4 wheel drive required. Or closed to big rigs. There are just too many clueless people out who cause too many accidents and slide off the road. Three years ago, took my daughter 6 hours to drive back to NAU after Thanksgiving- every few miles someone was in the ditch.

You don’t need it. In Kansas it’s like a high of 10 degrees everyday and I’ve never used it. You’ll be fine.

I just returned from a great trip to Kodiak. It is my 2nd trip to Kodiak and of course it did not disappoint. 1st rule of Kodiak- Give yourself plenty of time before and after the scheduled hunt for weather delays Thankfully ours was minimal but one group was waiting to fly for 4 days because of weather. 2nd Rule- Bears are no joke. I saw probably over 20 brown bears in 5 days with 7 in one day and a giant 8 1/2 foot sow and her cub at 40 yards. Standing up on her back legs and growling, making lots of noise and staring holes through me. No rifle and no backup gun. Dumb on my part but I was pressing to kill my buck before dark. I made a 48 yard shot on on a bedded buck, he ran 20 yards and tipped over, I held low since he was bedded down and almost missed him. But caught the lower part of his heart. I was by myself in bear country at almost dark. I didn't take to many pictures and hurried out of there. 3rd Rule- Sitka are pretty easy to hunt except the terrain they reside in. Couple of the guys in our group shot bucks at under 10 yards with rifles. Thanks to Jason for setting the trip up and inviting me along. He did all the work I just showed up. We flew into Kodiak on Friday night, Saturday morning the weather was good enough for us to be dropped by charter plane into Larsen Bay. Our Transporter picked us up and we busted it to an area to get hunting that afternoon. Everyone had the opportunity at bucks, but not a lot of real big mature bucks. It rained almost all day everyday with a few broken clouds we capitalized and took a few pictures. I get seasick, I know I do and tried to prepare but still ended up getting seasick toward the end. The boat captain tried real hard to keep the boat calm during the night, which they did. It was dead quiet and calm most every evening. My 2 goals were to take a big buck with my bow and to catch some fish. I only got sick the days I stayed on the boat and tried to fish in the deep water. My buddy killed two bucks with his rifle Quite a few guys caught a bunch of halibut, but I was so sick I wanted to get on land and hunt. could have shot a few solid bucks but nothing bigger than I already had. photo credit of the boat with rainbows to Jason and Tony. My buddies 2nd buck, last day. screen shot from video of a pretty big bear Buddies first buck they are pretty deer. Real heavy hide with lots of fat. I'll try and rotate our salmon limit Lingcod

I tried to send you a PM but you are filled up! Have some scoop you may or may not have heard already about 41W. Let me know... That coues tag don't need to go in the can, but that would be a good time to use Point Guard if you got it.
