Thanks to my buddy Mark who put the kids on a great field they had an amazing hunt. We had it all to ourselves and it was a target rich environment. I hadn't planned on shooting but once my son was done I used his little 20ga to knock out a limit. We were headed back by 730am with a few limits.

Out for birds with Gilbert and David Wiley. Good fun lots of missed shots ! Came home with 6 birds outa a whole Lotta shooting!! I brought my sxs shotgun I'd never shot and the new Beretta . Felt like Elmer Fudd with the sxs but hit 4 birds with it . It was hot 🔥 and was lots of walking .I did get over heated ( bring lots of water ) . A few stops on the way out and thankfully a ride from the rancher as I was definitely in a bad spot way dehydrated and running the risk of passing out . Make sure you have way more water than you think you need 5 bottles was not enough.

Missed the dove opener to fish a few days out of San Jose del Cabo in Baja. The marlin fishing was insane, landed & released 3 Striped from 80-100# and lost another after about a 15 minute fight, plus a beautiful 80# pez vela released and a few dorado kept one day, the next day I just wanted to fill the freezer and took 5 dorado, we missed two wahoo on the troll and killed a few skipjack for cut bait.

Well, I found another silver ingot at the mining camp. This one was a surface find while I was walking the 19th century townsite. Heavily oxidized and pocked with sediment, I recognized it was man made and the weight of the penny sized round made it worth soaking in vinegar and given a light brushing. Seemed like a curious weight. 12.77 grams of sterling. But when I did the math with the weight and silver values of the late 1800s, it hit me. The round would have been worth exactly 3 bits or .37 cents More proof the mining company was paying laborers in the very silver being extracted.

I finally get my bear back from the taxidermist and on the wall. It's not only a great looking bear, but the mount is superb! The cape on this bear is full and nearly flawless, and a pretty chocolate color. Very happy with it I called in this bear at first light and shot it at 50 yards as it was exiting stage left. It took off so fast I thought I missed! Especially after not finding any blood where it was or ran to. It ducked into a brushy creekbed. I had to go look for it! The creekbed was 40 feet deep and was dry. When I got to the sandy bottom, I still hadn't found any blood. I walked to my left a bit, then saw some blood drops! Walked a little further, around a bend in the creek, and there it was, lying dead on its side! My first solo bear! I couldn't hardly believe it. It was a good sized boar. I had to drag him to some shade to field dress it, was all I could do to drag it a few inches at a time. After field dressing it, I saw that the shot went through both lungs. I had met a couple of other guys bear hunting nearby, who offered to help me if I got one down, since I was hunting solo. With the bear in the shade, I hiked back to my Ranger and drove out looking for those guys. Luckily, I found them close by, so we went back to the bear. Using the Ranger winch and a huge tow strap those guys had, we carefully got him up to the Ranger. It took the three of us 2 hours! They couldn't believe how nice the bear was, the coat was full and gorgeous. We doubled a tarp under him and secured the tow strap around it's chest behind the front arms. Those guys did the hard work of guiding the bear up the steep banks and keeping the tarp under it to protect the cape. I just worked the switch for the winch to pull him up out of the creek. 😎

As I sit here reading this thread getting ready to go to work I can hear the gun shots across the street and cant help but wonder how far they went away from the road to shoot. I am just off Meridian and Ray and they have been flying pretty good this year.

Back in the day Don's was good when the old gunsmith was there . I've got a ruger m77 300 that the new kid did a break on back about 10/15 years ago right when the old smith retired. The gun was new in the box and the kid managed to screw it all up . The threads looked like they were cut with a dull paperclip and he managed to damage the stock . They had it for 8 months for the break and trigger work then another 6 months after I complained about the damage. The threads still look horrible but it shoots . Probably ready for a new barrel. That kid probably cost the owner a ton of money . Glws I still love a good ruger m77 and have one in 300wm and 338 wm.

Wanted to share a deadhead and shed I found this past season. I almost got a shot at the deadhead buck the year before but he outsmarted me. Too bad he didn’t outsmart the lion that got him. Hope I can find the buck who dropped the shed. He might have potential to be a goodun.

I avoid water (springs, tanks, ponds, ect), good way to get your stand stolen or have a negative encounter with some other CWT member. Set up in choke points, saddles, near an active bedding area.

Exactly. People like to read too hard into things. I guess you could make the argument that hearing aids are listening technology? I am the exact opposite, it needs to be clear and undeniable. If it isnt then they can pound sand
