4 pointsI was able to get my turkey on opening morning. Something different happened on this hunt that I have never seen or heard of before. After I shot my turkey he is flopping around on the ground when out of nowhere a bald eagle comes dive bombing out of the sky through the trees and lands on top of my dead turkey and starts attacking him with his talons and beak. I guess he wasn't bothered by the gunshot I had just used on the Tom. Anyways I had to run quickly to scare him off before my dead turkey flew away.

3 pointsI keep a battery powered blower in camp. End of each hunt day my pack, etc. gets a good dust off.

3 pointsThis is exactly why I sold my sxs. Owned 2 of them and sold them both for same reason. So what I can’t make it to the glassing spot or hunting area 5-10 min sooner. I can get anywhere a sxs can w my gen 3 4Runner or gen 1 sequoia for a fraction of the price of what sxs cost now and all my expensive gear /glass/rilfles are dust free and always protected. Plus ac and heater and can have a conversation w my passengers. And no more loading and unloading a trailer. Not a sxs hater but just got tired of them.

2 pointsThey do things differently up here- you buy a tag, you're good to go. Select the weapon, Eastern or Western, and pick what you're hunting in that unit and .. that's about it. Same with deer- but I'll do what I did last year and smack one from the treestand in the backyard. Doing Eastern this year. Kid got a Tacoma so we're taking that and the F250 and overlanding through the units we're going to hunt. Lots of boots on the ground. Never been there before. You can run cams in Washington. I'll be setting up cell cams (My favorite hobby) and going there as much as possible. Closest unit is 200 miles from the house, so it'll be 3-4 days at a time. It's close to the Washington BDR trail and that's on my to do list anyways. Hoping for a good thread start. At least I can post some scenery later 😃

1 pointMan, growing up my grandpa had a sweet bug. For some reason, it got sold as he got older, which was weird he never sold anything and all of us grandkids loved that. The guy who bought it ran it out of oil and blew it up like a month later

1 pointExactly. A 4runner or sequoia would take 10-15k in suspension to make it ride like a rzr. Cold, I put a carhartt on as an outer layer she gloves. Dust sucks, but goggles protect the eyes, and a dusty pack isn't the end of the world. Protecting the vehicles not meant for offroading is worth it as well as the smooth ride, and the speed of arriving to the spot. Not that 20-30 minutes is a huge deal. But an hour a day over 5-10 days really adds up.

1 pointWhile fishing the west fork of the black river with a good friend and his dad a few years back we came around this bend in the river and there was a spike elk standing on this rock ledge just above the river. He was acting and looked strange, his tongue was hanging out and he didn't run away. As we got closer this collared wolf came running out from just under the rocks and ran up the hill stopping once or twice to see what we were before leaving. He had chased and cornered this elk. Glad to have come to the rescue for the elk that day.

1 pointI haven't seen a river that wide in the White Mountains..... or any where else in the state other than the Colorado. Seems like some sensationalism reporting to me in the article

1 pointBEST THING and the cheapest - one will last 1-2 seasons and easily fit 4 hunting packs - plus the jackets when you take them off - no dust - zippers can break but at this price get two and you will be set https://www.amazon.com/Primode-Artificial-Storage-Protective-Zippered/dp/B01N47GA46/ref=sr_1_6?crid=28OT6SAYWJN7B&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.Pc1hGndsFurOGw1tuesqU4ZwQHw4jMCyH-qbpP7HO2DBPivkqj2EHmMlaqVgnmLwmu8WBVqIYWBbXd6wv1liCmPwlNMfUvg8MK5tqifE4q6PR5EH2bpfUjMnkNON8hWIRugVkHAu2l1ytxhqa5clUoHLHHIkz7T8Yw27T_mbnhy6JqqcdznHX1cQ-4e700UaZkkV25tYV1JWD5tAf6CzP_wf08DaGuqUqolSlO7wGNXG9ryTyG3E3vaFr0gLCKoa7A5t-hq1MK8k_fBuRIpp4njwS17wcvhkaTyPtykalFo.KnrHS35AB_SIdTJ2N1RAVBDuRTE7M_imJgEFNa-RrMc&dib_tag=se&keywords=christmas+tree+storage+bag&qid=1745840029&sprefix=christmas+tree%2Caps%2C619&sr=8-6 these are great for even bed of trucks when you know you will be on a dirt road or when it is raining - I have been using them for 5 years and best thing ever

1 pointMy son has had it great. Every year he's had turkeys called in with lots of gobbling and the ideal turkey hunting experience every year. When I was his age there was no over the counter youth hunt. My dad and I had no clue what we were doing when we first started turkey hunting. We attended many classes and seminars on how to hunt. We still failed most years but we kept at it and all the experiences and time made me the turkey hunter I am today. Do I wish my dad would have been a better turkey hunter and spoiled me, sure but I grew a lot closer to my dad through learning together. I am really grateful to him because he was the one who originally wanted to start turkey hunting. For me it was just a way to bridge the gap between the fall big game hunts. Now it's become my favorite hunt of the year. So keep at it your son is lucky to have a dad like you who takes him out each year.

1 pointThey can't hurt you. If you get a finger all the way to the back of that little mouth it's natural selection at that point.

1 pointWhat a different day then the past few. Birds fired up and we had one come in right off the roost. Came in with a few gobbles and stayed about 50yards just out of range. Decided to go to different area 20 miles away and man did it pay off. Started with one tom and five hens strutting and couldnt close the deal then a solo tom about 1/4 mile down road and she made a perfect shot. Prob best moment i have ever had hunting. what a feeling seeing her so excited and pumped about getting a bird! I will never forget this!
-
1 pointHad a great opening morning with my son. Birds were vocal and responsive to calls. Came in gobbling just after fly down. My son was patient waited for the right opportunity and made a great shot.

1 pointSIX, here’s a teaser to get you fired up! This was the years you could run cameras and some bulls I had hunters on in 6a. Unfortunately, out of 3 guys only one wrapped his tag. The other 2 both had great shot opportunities and caved under pressure. This bull I watched most the summer in 2019 and first week of September he moved 4 miles south. Called him in and guy from New York missed him twice under 40 yards 😫😫 Had 9 bulls on this water at once! This tank was deadly when it could hold water into September which was always hit or miss. Sick Bull we named jigsaw. Never could turn him up after he shed velvet. Buddy from Michigan missed a chip shot on this bull…Bull rattled him bad

1 pointAsking if you guys could give my mom a prayer. She received news her cancer is growing aggressively in her liver since last treatment. She had stage 4 ovarian almost 2 years ago & they removed it. Found a spot on her liver & thought they could hit hard, but her treatment didn’t work. Our family is praying for the best outcome. She is a wonderful caring lady as most mothers are. She is trying to stay strong & positive.
