This 760 was dad's first new gun, bought it in1952. The Weaver variable 1.5-3X was quite the bomb 70 years ago. We've taken so much game with it, its nicknamed the 'Meatpole.'

So, you're saying there's now a single woman at G&F that might be able to help me get draw every year like you?! 😄

My father had to bring a 22 rifle to school for marksmanship class in PE. Rural Minnesota. A whole class of young kids on the school bus with rifles. Good ol days.

Looking to trade my 1946 Model 70 in .270. It's a beautiful rifle but a little too heavy for my liking and honestly a little too nice to hunt with. Looking to trade it for something a little newer and lighter also chambered in .270. Great opportunity for someone to get a classic rifle that will last a lifetime. Leupold scope is not included and I'm not interested in any Remington 700's without significant cash on top to upgrade the trigger and safety. Would prefer something like a Kimber, Colt Sauer or even a custom build if done right. Would also prefer any trade to have a wood stock as well, laminate stock would be a plus. PM If interested!

In 1964, a guy could walk into the local Montgomery Ward and put a Springfield 30-06 on lay-a-way, for a dollar leaving a $40.48 balance. Here's the proof. Was given a box of old Weaver scopes Sunday, , model 330 and K 2.5. The receipt was in the box. Perhaps the K 2.5 was to be mounted on the .06? Looked at the 1964 Montgomery Wards catalog to see if maybe the Springfield in question was a sporterized M1903, but the closest thing advertised was this Enfield for under $23.00. Those were the days...

I have a Savage Axis youth muddy girl 7mm-08 for sale. It comes with a Weaver 3x9x40 scope and matching sling. It has less than 25 rounds down the barrel. It will also come with 2 1/2 boxes of ammo. I'm in Prescott Valley, but work in north Peoria and Wickenburg. This would be a great rifle for a lucky youth elk hunter this year. $450 obo

Are you currently utilizing a Ravin Crossbow, and if so, what type of bolts and tips are you using? Specifically, are you using a target tip or a broadhead? I have encountered a similar issue with my crossbow. I found that certain mechanical broadheads would either partially or fully open in flight, disrupting the true flight of the bolt due to the high speed of the crossbow. Personally, I use Grim Reaper Whitetail Specials 100-grain mechanicals, and have found that they fly true and straight. It's worth noting that where you hit the target can also make a difference. If you're hitting all over the place, it's likely due to the tip being too high or low. In this case, you'll need to adjust the speed setting on your scope accordingly. My scope, for example, is set at dead-on at 20 yards, with an option to adjust the speed setting based on my crossbow's speed (in my case, around 384 feet per second with a 400-grain Barnett bolt and 100-grain broadhead). To achieve optimal accuracy, I had to step out to 30 yards and adjust my bow's speed to 375 feet per second. With this setting, I can achieve dead-on accuracy up to 100 yards. One important note is that I never use a target tip to sight in. Instead, I always use the tip I plan to hunt with. I hope this information proves helpful to you, and good luck in your hunting endeavors.

Removed the leather pad, stock underneath is in great shape. Has a Hawkins recoil pad that is definitely period correct. Someone buy this thing before I decide to keep it. $1,100 if local.

^^^ This is Cholla ramp at Alamo lake. The lake was just at the turn around area at the top of the ramp when we got there last Saturday. These were taken 3/16/23 and the lake has come up 18”-24” since.

I was working for Mont. Wards in 1964 as a dept manager and that rifle purchase would have been one half of my weekly pay. Just to put some perspective on prices and wages. I did meet my current wife while working there. Just sayin. Bill

Well, I was sure we drew 5BS bull tags but it turns out we drew archery cow. That is OK with us. We are both 73 so likely our last archery hunt and probably our last elk tags.

I still show no tag, must be some sort of error. They should redo the draw until I get one.

After striking out last year, I put in for and drew Wyoming again. This year I gave myself 5 days to hunt and arriving 2 days early to scout. The hunt again aligned with my son's fall break and he accompanied me on the hunt. I learned last year that you need to know where you want to be at sunup opening day and that anything easy access will have a ton of hunters. I found a spot on the map that was a peninsula of public land of about 2 square miles but required a brutal 3-4 mile hike to reach. I was worried about my son being able to do that hike, let alone day after day. Well on the first day of scouting we hiked in there an hour and a half before the sun rose and got there right at first light. Right off the bat we started seeing antelope. Within half an hour we saw about 50 in 5 different groups spread out across the public land. I knew this was where we wanted to be. No need to scout more so we spent the rest of the day and the next fishing. We hiked into that area Saturday, Sunday and finally connected on this buck on Monday, having this tough to reach spot all to ourselves. We had plenty of antelope at about 400-600 yards but I was shooting a pistol and my max range was 300 that I was comfortable with. I glassed him up bedded and snuck into 324 yards. I built up the dirt so my pistol was rock solid, aimed right where I wanted it. 1 shot and he never got up. About 34 miles total hiking in the trip. One of the hardest pack outs I've done but my son wanted to help so he carried the skull out. When we arrived back at the truck there was another group parked by us loading up a buck they killed. They asked asked how old my son was and said they watched us from a high ridge for most of our pack out and wanted to treat him to ice cream in town, to which we obliged . They said none of them wanted to hike that far and a 6 year old showed them up. Another great hunting trip with my son by my side.
