That buck eventually got fooled by a center fire!

My 72 yo buddy drew archery antelope last year in 4b. He made a decoy from 1/4" plywood. I teased him about it...but ended up carrying it for him, for miles. We had a blast. We were stalking bucks every day. Primarily this guy (pic). The first time we had an opportunity to deploy the "decoy", that buck left his 4 does and came running on a string, from 375 yrds, up the hill we were on. It surprised us when he appeared 80 yards away. My buddy couldn't get on him quick enough...and a bit out of his range. That buck wasn't fooled again after that.

For those looking for a M94 to shoot, this is an excellent example even with the imperfections noted. Made in the mid '50s before Winchester cheapened the quality in 1964.

Thank you. I'm right there with you. As far as praying for rain. And I really hope that the deer ,bison and wildlife all are able to escape to somewhere safe. And more then that. The hunters who have waited nearly a lifetime to get a bison or deer tag. And now may not be able to hunt at all. This whole thing sucks .And is very unfortunate. People have lost homes, businesses and more. Let's all pray and just hope that it gets put out sooner then later. Then hopefully one of the most beautiful places in the world. Can heal and become even better then before🙏🤞

Arizona archery club, 1115W Deer Valley Rd. Great people, you can shoot any bow in the store, they set them up to your draw weight and poundage. I bought my last 2 bows there.

This not a safe queen and was used for lion hunts. It has my mark on it”RE”, has a small crack in the butt stock and has some scratches on the sides. The rifling and function are immaculate. It has some great stories to tell. Priced accordingly. Scabbard included.

Interesting..... The blog post from a wildlife conservation non-profit doesn't exactly support your claim regarding 'many different animals suffocating....' and it happening 'often'. I Googled too, and can't really find anything solid that supports that the theory is widespread. Here's an article that gives sort of a broad summary of how fires in general, impact wildlife. Appears the more significant impact generally comes in the form of habitat destruction and regeneration (or not).... Seems like in the past, the Kiabab herd has been pretty resilient. Hoping for the same result here.... How Does Wildfire Impact Wildlife and Forests? | U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Either way, I'm praying for monsoon rain!!!!!!

I would do some beta testing with decoys on bucks you do not intend to hunt in that unit. Chances are mature bucks have seen every style of decoy.

I think there’s way way less tags than back then. As dry as it’s been I would bet water will be good. Biggest antelope I’ve ever hunted in my life was in there. Was hitting water daily right in front of my blind. Opening day his buddies all watered but he didn’t come for some reason that day. Ended up raining 2.5” that night 🤦🏻‍♂️

Fun hunt. Had it twice in late 90s and early 2000s. Water will be heavily occupied by hunters. Some seemingly never leave it but if you find water that’s unoccupied you’ll do well. I used to hunt the wash ruts back and forth trying to get close in the Fain Ranch. Some of those washes are cut 4-6’ deep. Not sure if that ranch is still available. watch out for rattlers. I didn’t tag either time but had fun. Lost 13 pounds in 9 days of hunting the first time.

Thought I would share a photo I found at an estate sale today. Back of the photo says 1971 and talked to the son which explained it was taken in Aravaipa canyon. Crazy story he also shared was a ram was stranded on a ledge in the area this photo was taken and couldn’t get off. They located it and darted it to relocate by lifting him with ropes. Apparently all the vegetation up to 6 feet high was all gone in the area so he was living on the ledge for quite sometime and survived on rain water in the rocks. Once they got the stranded ram up off the ledge, that’s when this guy showed himself and got his photo taken. What do you think this thing scores?
