FYI they are also closed on Sunday’s too. I live about a mile away from their shop. If anyone needs something in a pinch but can’t get to their shop in time, just pm me and I can pick it up

To answer the OP's original question. The best coues deer rifle is the one that you actually learn to shoot and practice with. Most guns can shoot sub 1/2 MOA but most guys shouldn't be shooting past 400 yards and struggle to hit animals (on the first shot) at that distance. So, pick a gun, any gun and get really, really good with it. That is the perfect gun. FYI - this is the perfect time of the year to be sending pills down the tube.

If I was flush with cash I would call Jim Borden and have him build the lightest, flatest shooting rifle that he could, then have him top it with something light that I could see the ring around Saturn with. In reality since I havent/won't hit the lottery, I'll probably still use my .270.

Selling my Winchester model 77. Very good condition, has a couple very small imperfections on the stock. The gun is in it’s original configuration. Shoots well with open sights and ran several different kinds of ammo with no problems. Comes with a extra 10 round magazine. $325 face to face in Tucson or surrounding area. feel free to call or txt 520-780-4318 Thanks for looking.

So many jokes here. Why am I not surprised by the make of the car or the state in which it's registered. My biggest shock was to find out it was Cheetos that lured the critter into the car and not granola given the above. The javelina would have likely gotten away if he had thumbs to help grip the steering wheel. OK, I did not say they were good jokes.... You got any better ones? https://www.12news.com/article/news/local/arizona/a-javelina-in-a-car-is-the-most-arizona-thing-youll-see-today-april-2022/75-529b9249-bdeb-4ea1-af90-83f71d0f508d

I’d like to see these sub 6# rifles run 1000 yards. 😂

What rifle/bullet combo has the BC and velocity to have a 300 yard zero and only 12" of drop at 500?

Old school is still best for many people.

Front coming in probably killed it

Its very simple. The perfect coues rifle is zeroed at 300 and a foot low at 500. Topped With a mid powered scope If you can't connect within these parameters then drop 5k on a LR rig and learn to shoot turrets

Defiance Anti X action: I like Defiance quality and the Anti X weight. I'll give up a few ounces over TI for SS Proof Research Sendero Light 1 in 8 twist: What more can I say Gun Werks Climber Stock: If you've handled one you wont have to ask why....weight, ergo etc Leupold 3x18 VX6 or Leupold Mark 5 3-18. Phenomenal scopes for the weight. and the Zlock is about the best out there. Personally I prefer the TMOA reticle. Any of Timney Calvin elite, Jewell (absolutely my favorite although a little more finicky than the other 2), or Trigger Tech Diamond set at 2lbs for hunting Personally I want it under 6 Lbs before the scope. I'd be looking for a balance between weight and a comfortable 1000 yards. And shooting a 6.5 PRC (or Wheatherby 6.5 RPM if LA is OK) Shooting The higher BC 130's and 140+ are simply amazing. And the 127 LRX will work fantasticly for elk at 600 and under.

I pulled him out last night. Turns out he is the son of a Nigerian prince. He was so grateful that he is going to leave me and my family a bunch of money for my kindness. Sucks to be you guys! Are those NL’s still for sale in the classifieds?

Probably drives a Subaru……there’s actually a lot of standing water on the rim right now. And possible snow on Tuesday. Bring it!

Most unusual coincidence ever. I’m down in the valley seeing family and my brother and I sobered up enough to run up there today. About a 30 min drive from our VRBO and didn’t bother to look to see if they were open. Well they weren’t. That one was on me though for not looking. Google said closed when I pulled it up in their parking lot at 1500. Probably a good thing as I’m sure it saved me $1000

Let us know how the hunt goes! 27 is fun, I've had that tag four times in the last 11 years and had a blast every time. I never felt like I needed to pack in anywhere to get away from people to still have a good hunt but remember other folks will be wanting to do the same as you and you may run into folks in the Bear Wallow or the Blue too. Oh, yeah, Scott Adams knows lots of wilderness in 27, like Sun devil said. Jeff

Where's Lark when we need him? He says the 7-08 will bounce off a deer. And a .270 if you miss you best duck cuz it will come back around and hit you in the back of the head....and as far as the 6.5 goes b!tch biscuits are not in style anymore. .270 all the way.

I bought the Axis Compact in 243 back in early 2017. One of the holes for the scope mounts wasn't threaded properly so I sent it back. When I got it back they had mounted some cheapy bases on it so I took them off and put on some LW Talleys and mounted a Zeiss Terra I had bought a year or so earlier for about $175 that was on clearance. I also took the stock off and recentered the action as one side of the barrel was tight against it. Off to the range with some factory ammo and soon discovered that the factory 6 pound trigger had to go so I ordered a Rifle Basix from ER Brown for another $90. While I was waiting for it I sent the bolt to LRI and had it fluted as my goal was to have a light compact rifle for Javelina and Coyotes. The trigger was a 10 minute install and while the rifle doesn't drive tacks it does well under MOA with factory ammo. All told I'm probably into it for north of $600.

I saw a guy walking out with the only bison skull I saw. Small skull. Has to be the one, but I have absolutely no way of identifying the buyer. You should have posted this BEFORE the expo, I would have happily picked it up for you.

Mine is a bit dated, but I may be as well... Pre 64win action, Jewell trigger 6.5-06 chambered Rock 5R 1-8" # 2 contour barrel finished at 23" McMillan hunters edge stock Currently wearing a Leupold Mark 4 10x fixed power in S&K rings. 8 pounds loaded with sling. Typically used for week long Coues backpack hunts, but it did kill a big 6x6 bull with a Barnes 127 grain LRX.

UPDATE - BLUEBONNET LONGBEARD My brother picked up me in Dallas last Thursday and we got on the road. It took us about 2 hours to get to some private ground we have permission to hunt - we cracked some beers and got ready to roost some birds that evening. We spent the last hour of shooting light trying to locate some longbeards and spent about an hour afterwards owl hooting, hoping to shock gobble a few. No luck. We woke up Friday morning with an uninformed game plan, really just hoping we would get into this hayfield on the property and get lucky. We parked about 1000 yards from the tree line, on the far end of the hayfield, about an hour before legal shooting light. As we closed the distance across the field, we decided to stop and make a set of owl hoots. I couldn't even get the first three notes out and POW. POW. Two gobblers struck up on the left corner of the hayfield. We made a beeline for trees. We set up as close as we could in the pitch black of the early morning, with a jake and hen decoy set out about 15 yards into the field. After 15 minutes of letting things cool down, I let out a soft hen call and immediately - POW, POW. I gave them some time and hit them with a little bit louder and longer hen call - POW, POW. They were keyed in on our location and all we had to do was wait for flydown. 10 minutes after legal shooting light, the gobbles start to move direction slightly. Again, we don't hear them fly down... but we see two dark blobs 100 yards into the hayfield. In the grey light of early dawn, we can barely make them out. But we know one of them is a tom, with the thunder coming from their location. 20 minutes of cat/mouse calling, and we have this jake and tom barreling in our decoys. I'm sitting behind my brother and I give them a soft yelp to get the tom's head up inside the decoy spread. He fired off a round and the big tom cartwheeled in place. Epic morning and a cool experience to get it done with my brother.
