9 pointsI hunted this unit last year and got skunked. I had never seen it so bad since I started hunting it over 30 years ago. I put in for it again to challenge myself to find a good buck. I did find a 180 plus buck about 7 weeks ago and spent several weekends trying to relocate him, but had no luck. I changed locations and turned up this buck 3 weeks ago. I only got about 45 seconds of footage before he disappeared. I came back the next weekend and couldn’t turn him up. About ten days ago I found him again, and got about 30 seconds of video before he melted away into one of his hiding spots. Opening morning found me and my son looking for another buck I had found for him, but that deer didn’t want to cooperate. We hunted all day and only found several young deer. Saturday I decided to go searching for the big 3, but he never showed himself. On the hike out, I found several lion tracks and figured he had been killed or pushed. Sunday the wind was gusting 20-30 mph and most of the deer I found were bedded, and also 600 yards out with no chance to shoot with the cross winds. The wind blew hard all day and we just couldn’t find much moving. Monday morning started the same with the crazy winds, but we had a plan to relocate another tall 3x3 I had seen several times for my son. On our way to that spot, I said let’s go take a look for the other big 3 and just see if he is up and moving. We were glassing from a spot that didn’t really give me the angle needed to see into his normal feeding area, but I wanted to at least try. I turned up one doe in a small cut feeding away from us. We kept glassing the area over and thought for sure there is no way this buck would be out feeding. I glassed for a while and was getting ready to move on and decided to glass below me. Standing in the open feeding was this buck at only 225 yards. I had just looked over this spot five minutes earlier. He must have been down inside a deep cut where I couldn’t see him before. I put a 168 ELD-M right in the pocket and he spun and dropped about ten feet away. While we were packing him out, we hiked down the same wash that I had used a couple days earlier. There were more lion tracks on top of my boot tracks. We scouted this area for weeks and kept seeing lion tracks in the road, but we were never able to glass him up. Unfortunately we never found a good buck for my son to shoot, but it was a great hunt and had a great time hunting with my son. David

5 pointsWell my daughters and my elk cow hunt was unsuccessful on filling tags so I was on a mission to put meat in the freezer. Wasn’t real happy with the full moon conditions we were experiencing but knew an area that held decent deer. Opening morning I had hopes of finding the bruiser that has been eluding me for the past 3 yrs, but at 6:15 two bucks decide to show up on an opposite hill. For the next 20 minutes I’m frantically glassing a canyon where the bruiser likes to hangout…..nothing. I then start thinking how I want some meat in the freezer again. I range the (2) bucks at 410yds, but still keep looking at the canyon….nothing. I get set up and hem and haw for the next 5 minutes and decide to send lead. I knew the next few days were going get super windy and finding deer under the moon and wind conditions was going to get tougher each day along with normal pressure. So I decided it’s go time!!!! 1st shot was a tad low, adjusted scope and 2nd shot was spot on. Not my biggest or smallest, but meat in the freezer. Just a measly 2 mile hike out but worth every bit of it. This deer had an absolutely beautiful coat on it. We filled 2 out of 3 tags with the hunting party I was with.

4 pointsThis is my dad's friend Aaron he's a Texas boy and married to my dad's old high school girlfriend. Aaron lives in Texas and put in for 40 years in Oklahoma for elk to never get a tag. This guy has a broken back and shattered a leg from falling outta a treestand. So getting around is not easy. Sat every day from the opener till yesterday . It was catching up to him so he stayed back in the morning. I went to see how he was at lunch and took him in to his spot. Had 4 bulls come in with just one cow . He made a great shot and she was rocking. The big bull still tried to hit it as she was clearing the dam for the water hole . Funny stuff! We saw turkey, deer, and elk come in .To all the 6a road hunters I say keep quiet and listen and watch and perseverance pays off .

4 pointsSeriously, you would have just fed it to your dog? I've had some good dogs over the years but this leaves me scratching my head.

1 pointI glassed up what looked like a bone white tine, and to the left I could see a spine. right after that I move my binos and glassed up a lion at last light. First one I’ve ever seen. went back the next morning for the head and I found about a 105” on the way to it.

1 pointSorry can’t help ya with scopes - don’t know anything about them - but you won’t catch a big old male coyote in a Iive trap - they are to smart and won’t go in them - no matter the bait- I guess I shouldn’t say never , as occasionally it might happen - my buddy and I have probably over 40 years trapping between us and he has caught 1 young pup coyote in a live trap in all those years - that’s it just the one ….. bobcats no problem , foxes yes , even a javelina will go in them - but very rarely will a coyote go in a live trap . a coyote wants to see all around him and not be boxed in even the dirt hole sets the backing needs to be no higher then about his knees as he wants to see over the top of it and see all around ….. that’s just my 2 cents on coyotes and live cage traps…. how are you setting in “ clusters of 4” not quite understanding that ….. how big is your place - ? A few scattered around with different kinds of sets( dirt holes , trash mounds , T-bone etc …. ) and lures should get them ….. with coyote’s unfortunately it’s never a “one and done “ they will always be there - when you take out one , another takes his place , but you should be able to keep them in check ….. have you tried snares were they come through the fence ? I know they are a no go as well - but with your statement -“ by any means necessary “ …….. what kind of livestock are you talking about ? Goats , chickens , cows ? you do have to be careful with the traps if they are set in a pasture were your livestock runs - #3’s will catch and hold a goat or calf ….. ( I have caught my own calf before ) - so that comes into play as well….. anyway if you want to pursue the trapping angle more and need to borrow a few footholds to try I’ve got probably 200 you can come get a few to try out if you want to .

1 pointI used to do a bit of trapping. I found that the best method for trapping any K9 is a dirt hole set. You have to be sure you leave no human scent on the set. Place two sets within a few yards of each other and it's not uncommon to catch doubles. You want to use No 1.5 or 2 coil springs. put the sets in the right spot and you don't even need bait or lure, curiosity alone will catch them. Snares work well if you know the travel routes or can create a funnel.

1 pointUs Arizona outdoors people are very aware of the issues/threat that these invasive non native animals have on our state. Regardless of anyone's political beliefs or where you are from, the truth is the facts. In 3c it is a major growing problem in population which causes issues with feed and water for other wildlife. The fence cutting/vandalism that is going on so these non native species can drink is insane. Especially this year with it being so dry, who should pay for that? The rancher, the hunter/outdoorsman, the state? JMO, end of lack of defensive knowledge

1 pointFun hunt. lots of deer LOTS OF PEOPLE With weather up high, this could be more the equivalent of an early Kaibab hunt, maybe. This year was very warm and dry and zero snow, even in the very high peaks. Deer started rutting pretty good about day 4, but two point were still the norm.
