Hate to be a total dick but the crossbow and now airbow thing is getting out of hand. It's one thing if you sustain an injury after a draw but putting in for archery knowing you can't shoot a bow.... I guess any advantage right? End justifies the means etc. 40 year old guys who can pack out an elk but can't draw a bow? Whatever

Bingo! Thanks for taking one for the team. I'm usually the one being the dick about this. Sounds like the dude is an asswipe with an entitlement attitude who has no clue what hunting is about.

No plate. And yes they knew I was there. Unfortunately some people suck. Good news is, I still had a ton of elk come into that water hole. Just none big enough. Some that I regret not shooting. Any ways, I called in a little 5x5 on day 13 and decided to fill my tag. So the hunt was still a success. Not the 330 I was after, but better than tag soup. I did get my arrow in the big bull, but did not kill him. I looked for 2 full days and no sign of him.

Yes jump on something quick if its a good deal. I have a PJ 20' car hauler that I got for a smoking deal, It added the stuff I wanted and wont ever sell it.I also have a 16'x77'' 1991 Big Tex that is built really well. I bought it to flip. I also have/had a few military trailers. I like trailers šŸ˜…

PJ trailer is literally the best trailer for the money. All these guys saying Rockland is the best...no. They are angle steel trailers. Cheap as they come. PJ are Channel, way the heck stronger and angle. Not even a comparison. I drove to Amarillo and bought one cheaper than rockland, 3 times the trailer.

There are plenty of respectable people out there on side by sides, so I don’t want people to think this is a bash. There are plenty of douche bags in trucks too. But I did want to share something I learned this hunt. I was in elk every single day. If I had a caller, it would have ended very different. Doing this stuff solo is tough. But after being inside of 50 yards on a bull every day on this hunt, I got to see elk behavior like I never have before. Every morning I was up and in my spot listening to bugles an hour before the sun came up. This usually consisted of a 1-3 mile hike. And that was just to get in place to start chasing. Every morning something else would also happen. Just before light the majestic sound of bugles all around, would stop at the sound of a side by side. You can hear those things a dang mile away!! They are not elk magnets. The elk actually shut up, and move away from the sound. It’s amazing. As soon as the side by side noise would disappear, a single mew would fire everything right back up. So maybe this will help someone, or maybe no one will care, but elk respond to your rig. Loud trucks same thing. But the quiet vehicles never had quite the same response. It was cool to experience.

For too many people it is all about filling the tag and braggin on the internet.

Sounds like you are hoping to buy used. Lots of folks out there selling their trailers don’t know what they are worth. That can work for you or against you if you don’t educate yourself. Think about what you’re going to use it for and then think about what else you could use it for. The more versatile a trailer the better, for ownership and resale. For example, A car hauler will certainly carry your utv but the utility trailer will not necessarily carry a car or truck. You can often find someone selling a 10,000 pound GVW trailer priced like the 7000 pound GVW trailers that are most car haulers. You can see that by looking at how many wheel lugs are on the rim. Five (3500# axle) versus six (5000# axle) in my example. My other tip is know your budget and have cash on hand. Good deals don’t last long, if you see an ad go up at 7pm, try to get there that night. I recently told a guy I was on my way and texted a pic of the cash so he knew I was serious. He actually cancelled other appts as he knew I was not kicking tires. My buddy bought a PJ dump trailer from a guy that didn’t know what he had and my pal recognized the faded upside down triangle sticker as their logo and got it for $2500 (a $5-7k trailer). Echoing PJ, they are the highest quality trailer I have seen, I’d buy any PJ with confidence. They will be a little heavier than other trailers but that’s just because they use more material. They sell and resell for a premium. Personally, I would not make the 24 hour round trip to Amarillo and unless I was pheasant hunting to in Kansas too. You can also get a good deal if they need a new floor Or need new wiring, these are pretty easy jobs. I have done 3 trailer floors myself. I saw that Lamar markets to hunters on their website. I like companies that don’t shy away from us sportsman. pm me if you want to chat more good luck and have fun!

It looks too light weight. You really want something sturdy and heavy.

Sitting water is the one sure way to have negative interaction with fellow hunters & the general public. Expect it.

I had posted this on some FB groups, so I apologize if it’s been seen already. I really wanted to post here as this forum is where I got my first bow last October, and the journey really started that led to a successful harvest 9/4/20 (Thx again mulie hunter!!) Lots of firsts this week: first hike in camp on my back hunt, first completely solo DIY hunt, and even better: FIRST ARCHERY KILL, and even better: FIRST ARCHERY COUES!! I got all my gear together and set up my Mystery Ranch Pintler pack to haul camp in a 55L dry bag, drove up Wed night and hiked in by the moonlight and set up camp. Saw a couple deers’ eyeballs checking me out-amazing how bright their eyes glow from just a headlamp pointed their way! I hunted Thurs morning, mainly still hunting the juniper flats somewhere in good Coues country in 21. Spotted 2 little bucks, a small 3X and an even smaller forkie, frolicking and feeding with a doe. I maneuvered around and walked into a small clearing between bushes at 72yds. Being an old guy I took a second to figure which was the 3X and as soon as my pin started to settle on his chest both deer quartered away and walked on. I underestimated water consumption and hiked/hunted a trip back to Jeep for more water, then still hunting again Thurs late afternoon bumped a nice buck but didn’t get a shot. I realized my experiment in hiking camp in (only a mile or so from Jeep) was gonna deplete my time and water I decided I’d pack up Fri morning and find a spot I could camp by my water supply. After getting everything packed up and on my back Fri morning, I figured I’d carry a nocked arrow on the hike because it’s my luck I’d get a chance if I didn’t for sure! About 1/4mi from Jeep I came around a corner to see a decent buck about 40yds looking right at me. I froze and when he turned his head a bit I went to hook my release and he whipped his head right at me, then show me his nice white butt, tail held high and was gone. I got to the Jeep, set my bow on the hood, dropped the 70lbs I’d been packing. I fired up the Jeep and turned on the AC, downed a god amount of water and when I started putting gear away. Then I saw him, or I should saw his rack-about a 100yds away standing broadside on the track I’d just hiked was a grey ghost with a rack as wide if not wider than his ears. I couldn’t believe it, he just stood there. I grabbed my rangefinder and bow and stepped behind the edge of a juniper. He was standing there looking tight at me. I ranged him at 94yds, dialed my MBG ascent, drew back and sidestepped into a perfect ā€œat the rangeā€ form and he lowered his head to grab a bite and I let fly. Again, I’m bifocal old (53) so I can’t see where my arrow went, but he busted left and I heard what I thought was my arrow impacting the prickly pear he was by. I waited a bit then went down and didn’t see any blood, couldn’t find my arrow in the cactus or bushes, then saw it in the middle of the track about 25ft further down. I picked it up, and holy crap, there was blood on the 125gr Exodus, shaft, fletching and nock!! I saw no blood on ground where he had been and only two tracks where he pushed off. No blood apparent for about 10yds I looked in the direction he went, and my heart sank. My worst fear of not being able to recover an injured animal, and learning to track with no help for hours in 100* heat loomed before me. I went to Jeep, secured my gear, got pack setup for a lengthy search and recovery, feeling excited and sick to my stomach at the same time. I gave him an hour to not bump him if wounded and set at it. I was kind of gridding in the direction he went, looking in vain for any blood or tracks for about 10yds, when I looked up to see where the game trail in the grass and rock went when I saw a velvet rack poking out from behind a rock about 50ft ahead of me. I was amazed and grateful beyond words to find him with a perfect boiler room pass through that dropped him about 95ft from where he was when I hit him!! I have been practicing hard all year and shooting to 100 regularly-trust me, had conditions not been perfect I would have let down. Not huge, but a great old warrior with torn up ears, and an awesome older representative buck of mid-state high desert Coues.

Nice bench, I like the bottom shelf set back like that. and the thickness of the 2 shelves on the top. I suggest using clamps on the loaders and powder dump untill you figure out how it fits your needs, otherwise your going to have a bunch of holes drilled in that bench. also depending if your right handed or left hand will depend on how you want them mounted. other than that, its too small, youll see why in a month or so. if you got kids, make them bunk with each other or give them a tent in the back yard and take over there room LOL. I have a 13x16 foot garage with a/c in the back yard and its no where near big enough for my loaders, brass hulls etc etc, its close when all the house storage stuff is out. which I plan on doing tonight after work since its cooling down. Just realized something, add some better bracing to the front edge of the table, maybe some angled piece's coming off the side legs. lots of down force in that area., generally you want 1.5" to 2" of sood for the tops, I used 8 foot solid wood office doors there llittle over 1.5" thick.

A couple different kinds of bulls from tonight.

We switched mountain ranges and are doing better the last couple of days. We had bulls screaming below us last night and they were still there when we got back today. We have chase for 1.25 miles but blew it right as we were closing the distance. Then we had a giant tank of a bull walk within 120 yds of us while glassing tonight. Then right at dark two spikes came in to a wallow we were sitting. I called one to 49 yds but he caught Jon drawing and there was no shot. It was a great day chasing elk in a beautiful place.

More to do with the angle than the broadhead. My recommendation is take nothing but a broadside to quartering away shot with a bow. People will crucify me for saying that. I know tons of animals are killed every year quartering to or frontal, but that is my rule. I killed a bull in 2013 that I watched come toward me from 100 yards. Stood in a wallow tearing it up 27 yards away, walked to me to less than 10 yards...never better than quartering to. I actually said to myself "Is this really going to happen? Is he going to be this close and I don't get a shot?" I waited and was blessed when he got nervous and jumped. Stopped quartering away at 25 yards. Dead bull. Just my personal rule. I would rather lose an opportunity than wound an animal. Crucifying commence.

The vinegar attacked the brass and could've etched the case to the point it may have compromised the strength. You can dissolve brass with vinegar if left in contact for extended periods of time. It should clean up in a tumbler but it may require some polishing with steel wool to remove the severely etched surfaces.
