Caught this flathead at Bartlett this morning on a chatter bait, my scale only went up to 20 pounds, how much do you think this thing weighs, this is the first flathead I've ever caught

My 3 year-old and I had a great day at Roosevelt. I'm thankful the fishing has picked up the last few years.

I let it go, I wish I had a scale that went that high, I'm guessing it had to be at least 40 lbs it was heavy, when I tossed it back it was like someone doing a cannon ball off the boat, it splashed all of us. I was jigging that chatter bait off the bottom when I hooked into it, I told my son to get the net, after a minute I told him it has to be a catfish because they don't have bass in Bartlett this big, after a few minutes it showed itself for a second before making a big run, when I saw it I said you might as well put the net down it ain't big enough ha ha. I've never seen a mouth on a fish that big, my chatter bait looked tiny in there, it was an awesome experience.

I was up in the area scouting, looking around Saturday. Elk have not come back to the area yet. But tons of horse poop. I actually get angry when people refer to them has wild horses. just idiotic. We have quite a few horses and love them, But without feed constantly available they end up being destructive. They just do what it takes to survive.... In the late 60's early 70's my dad lost a job. My parents went to the local butcher and found horse meat was 1/2 the price of beef. so it was an easy choice... I'll never forget, best meat I'd ever had. so if I had a chance to get a tag for a horse I'm in. They do not belong ruining or forest.

The thing that makes no sense to me is the apparent randomness of the 20% max archery harvest that they've used for years. Let's just look at an extreme case to see if this model works correctly; If most of the rifle hunters decided that they preferred to be bowhunters for deer, G&F would still not allow more of the kill to go to bowhunters because it is capped at 20% of the rifle kill. That's true even if 95% of the hunters showed a preference to hunt with a bow instead of a rifle (I said we're looking at an extreme example to see if the system works). Shouldn't it be set on a dynamic basis so that the more hunters that expressed a preferred desire to hunt with a bow (or even if more expressed a desire to hunt with a rifle for that matter), the permits and subsequent kill should reflect that? It is that way for the other species. If a higher percentage of hunters applied for archery ELK first choice and not rifle, they would adjust the number of permits (and resulting harvest) to give more archery permits and fewer rifle. But for deer hunting, they have a flat and fixed percentage that can't change no matter how much demand for archery permits increases and rifle permits decreases? That has always made no sense to me.

The fastest cartridge is undoubtedly the 6.5 CM. It must shoot at least 6,000fps.

I let them know I fully support the euthanasia of all of the feral animals in Arizona and offered to help in the process.

I bought this here last year and used it twice. Nice Kayak. I really like the pedal drive. I just have too many other kayaks that I use more often. $500 in Catalina (north of Tucson)

I remember when I had my son and nephew both about 8 or 9 at the time (they are 30 now) in my bad as. Bass boat at Roosevelt and were long line trolling and killing the slabs. Leroy Price was with us guiding a family and game and fish rolled up in an unmarked Bayliner. The boys and i wore life jackets when the big motor was on but I let them take em off when we were trolling with the electric motor. They know how to swim and it was glass on the lake that morning. Game and fish chewed my as. And threw the book at me. Learned a good lesson that day, let me tell you. Great times.

I didn't see any but I'm on a boat with a 3 year old man, I wasn't paying attention to anything but safety and crappie.

Long line trolling jigs, grubs and bare hooked minnow combinations at 1mph. Ran out of minnows and caught a couple casting.

Hey 218, we want plenty of pics and a good story on how your gov tag plays out. Hope you get a giant!

I'm all in on making entire units primitive consecutive years. To reduce the success rate and increase the age class. Personally, it seems hunting these days for many is nothing more than long range target shooting. Primitive seasons would bring actual stalking of game back into the mix.

Also doesn’t help that our spineless worm of a governor Doug Ducey jumped on board protecting them.

Again, I have no dog in the fight and don't know either of you, but that's very, very weak. You'd have been better off not responding at all....
  16. 1 point
That’s the type of weasel response I was expecting. Your biggest error was creating a lie about me. You accused me of poaching and you have no evidence or proof. You should be banned from this site

He who has to pay an outfitter every time is someone that can’t do it on his own.
  18. 1 point
Well…..a dude that pays KGS to guide him hears a RUMOR about you poaching and one of the few people you came into contact with during the hunt was KGS. I’ll make the accusations for you. I dunno who needs to pay an outfitter all the time when you live 2 hours from the unit? I guess I’d probably kill bigger animals if I did. 🤷

I think he just assumes everyone poaches since he has to hire koury guide service for every tag he gets. And one of KGS guides was my school mate who saw me on like day 3 of this hunt.

I say kill them ,grind them and hamburgers for all the state or federal inmates in AZ. Lots of other countries eat horses. These probably don't taste much different than deer or elk or grass fed beef for that matter.

AZ doesnt have wild horses, all are loose feral livestock. They are doing emense amounts of damage to the habitat that the real wild animals use.

The Karen' s and Chad's came unglued when they tried to remove the Salt River horses.

This is not a time to be silent. All people who enjoy our national forests need to be writing and calling for the removal of feral horses from all our national forests. I guarantee the other side is.

The only place on the Rez that has Smallmouth is the Black/Salt River which should be turning on here very soon, there have never been any Smallmouth stocked in any other locations on the Rez unless it was done unlawfully. Highway Tank dries up regularly so not much effort is made to stock it, Upper Highway Tank can get good for Largemouth Bass, Tanks Canyon used to have good Largemouth and Big Channel Cats, Brushy Basin Tank should have good Bass and Catfish, Sycamore Tank has small Bass. Most tanks are self sustaining and the last time we stocked LMB in any of the tanks was 2009, other than that we regularly stocked a wide range of the tanks with mostly CCF. DAN
