I sure miss Lark. Thanks for bringing this old thread back to life. 👍

Speaking from experience, if you have a family make sure they are built for that kind of life. You will miss and lose things you can never get back. It sounds good with the money traveling pays, but it takes a toll.

FN Made version of the M70 Classic Action. 270 WSM. 120 or so down the pipe. Shot well with MOA trigger (no targets...been a few years since we've needed it). Minor field use. Good condition. Always cleaned with a bore guide. Never abused. Comes with 30mm Burris Signature Zee Rings for 30mm scope tube. FTF and DL or CC Permit required. Be legal to buy it. Price is $850 OBO. Can include a Viper HSLR 4-16 for another $350 (OBO) if needed. I'll throw in 26 rounds of Barnes 140gr TSX and a Mike Lucas Bore guide for a Full Price sale.

You see a lot of country... from the windshield. You had better like to travel. I've welded a lot of pipe, but never on a pipeline. Industry was where I made my mark, mining mostly but some oilfield. A lot of travel there also. It took me to Anchorage where I helped set up rigs that were bound for Prudhoe Bay. If you haven't already, check out Austin Ross. Good ol' boy from TX.

Well, it nearly took an army but we got it done. I don’t have the time or the energy to write it all up now, I will have to do that later. But suffice it to say that @1denogean, @bonecollector, @wish2hunt, @trphyhntr and a group of others all pitched in big time to make this happen and they will forever be part of our sheep army. @lancetkenyon thanks for the range time making sure the gun and charts were ready when the time came. This was our longest shot ever, 542 yds. We killed a good ram and it was amazing for my kid to experience. But more importantly my kid got to see men being men. He got to experience what it means to be part of something and to have others support you in accomplishing a goal without taking any credit for themselves. Here are some pics, I will write up the story later.

This year I am hunting with my 1965 Winchester 94 30-30. Son is hunting with his Marlin 336 30-30. Iron sights on both. I am bringing my Savage 22-250 as a backup 😮

I wish rifle season was only for straight-walled cartridges for adults. Kids could use regular stuff like .243, .223, .270, .300 Win mag, etc. My first and only Javelina with a rifle was a good ole Mod. 94 30-30.

My first rifle Javelina was with a 7-08 using 100gr handloads.

Good luck bud...I did the pipeline thing for a few years and hated the traveling part. Sorry, I wish I still had contacts in that field. I might .... I will check with one person that might be able to get me some info for you or still might have a connect.

Been trying to figure out the proper way to go about this. Was going to make a different post…but basically, on day 4 I was able capture lightning in a bottle and dig up one of those big Coues bucks. I found this buck on Thursday morning after hunting half of Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. I found a nucleus of bucks and was just starting to kind of figure it out when I stumbled across this guy. I had no idea what he was when I shot. After passing up a couple medium bucks, I spotted this one at 286 yards, got him in the spotting scope before the morning sun had hit him, and right then he turned toward me. All I saw was “a big brow” and said “YEP YEP YEP! That’ll do.” I got a great surprise when I walked up to him.

I wish Lark had thicker skin. Enjoyed his posts even though he could be somewhat cranky at times. Wish he'd get back on this site.

Wasn’t it them changing his name to 7mm08 on April Fool’s day that finally did him in? Pretty sure that was the straw that broke the camel’s back and he never posted again. Pretty ironic if you ask me.
