Buster all I hear is fancy talking!! I have to agree with AZdiamond. I have been following this but you have yet to answer some real questions. Then he calls you out (probably does jab you with a condescending remark) but then you reply in kind saying "there you go again making fun" then change the subject add something else and again AZdiamond will ask another question and still no answers. If you have time AZdiamond go back and relist your question and Buster I would like to truly hear an answer, because this is the same ole things the Left does to not agree with the hunting community about wolves.

I believe this is true. A crew out of Utah told me in that "they were hired by the AZGFD to showcase Arizona OTC opportunity", and that they weren't the only ones hired. Social media, You Tube, and Podcast are cool to listen to and watch but the repercussions from the exposure will ultimately end up ruining the quality of the OTC hunt in AZ. The pressure will get too high and the deer will wise up to what's going on and be tougher to hunt than they already are..... What pisses me off is these guys wont showcase their own states. Yeah they will put out a few videos of them hunting other states or their own spots, but I guarantee they don't have their State flag flying on the tag for the video, they don't mention anything about the tag process in their state, they don't show the roads on the videos. I have yet to see any information on Utah deer hunting in the Wasatch mountains, or deer opportunity in Idaho. Its apparent that the AZGFD has ONE objective in mind and that is to generate revenue regardless of the impacts it has on the quality of the OTC hunting. The federal lands are everyone's to enjoy and I think the nonresidents have a right to come hunt. They spend their hard earned money and pay their way. But I think it needs to be managed a little differently. I know more regulation is never a good thing but AZGFD has showcased AZ and changed the amount of pressure so they need to deal with it! Maybe have a limited number of OTC tags available for residents and nonresidents? Maybe have the nonresident tags available through a draw process? Maybe raise the price of OTC tags across the board? Maybe implement mandatory harvest reporting, and close units when the quota is meet? Maybe have people select a hand full of units they can hunt when buying their OTC deer tag, and limit the number of hunters per unit (have this on a first come first served basis, in person)? Something to regulate the hunting pressure………. Just MY $0.02

Last year was as bad as I’ve ever seen for cross country quaders. Cutting fences, driving canyon benches, the flats looked like a motocross arena. Sucks people are so lazy.

I got my 2020 javelina on January 20th during Fort Huachucas archery javelina hunt. I had hunted every weekend and free day all month without seeing any javelina. I had been hunting areas that had produced javelina for me before, usually glassing from dawn to dusk. All the areas I was hunting had javelina sign in them, but I just couldn’t find them. I was beginning to think I wouldn’t fill my tag this year. After glassing all morning in a spot where I had taken a javelina every year for the past three years, and still seeing nothing, I decide to try something different. Two years ago I had been predator calling in a place a few miles away and called in some javelina. I decided to quit what I was doing and go check out that spot. The spot was near a pond in an area that seemed like a good bedding area. I set up on the north side of the pond and started blowing on a predator call. After a few minutes I saw a lone javelina in the brush on the other side of the pond. He kept coming closer and stopped on the far edge of the pond. He stopped just outside of my comfortable range so I decide not to take a shot. He milled around for a little bit and then left. I tried to follow after him but had to give up because the brush was too thick to stalk trough. I headed back to my spot on the north side of the pond. I waited around for a while contemplating my next move feeling disappointed. Just then I spotted something moving in the brush on the other side of the pond. It was a lone javelina coming around the east side of the pond and heading north. When he disappeared from view I nocked an arrow and headed in his direction hoping to intercept him. I hadn’t moved very far when he popped up less than 10 yards in front of me. He froze looking in my direction as I fumbled with my release trying to hook it to my bow string. After what seemed like a long time I hooked my string and drew my bow. Just as he started to leave I put an arrow in him and he dropped a few feet away. I’m pretty sure this was the same javelina I had called in earlier. He weighed 38 lbs dressed and is the first boar javelina I’ve ever taken. I thank God that I was able to take this animal after a long hunt that I didn’t think would work out. When what you usually do isn’t working don’t be afraid to try something new.

If you asking about riparian degradation- https://today.oregonstate.edu/archives/2012/apr/loss-predators-northern-hemisphere-affecting-ecosystem-health I worked a projects involving whitetail deer and their ability to destroy forests as riparian streams, but the above link is a far reaching analysis.

Have you tried putting suspenders on it to help hold it up? I did that on a similar style pack years ago with some Carhartt suspenders. Made a big difference.

Same old rerun 🤮 All you do is run your mouth with no citations or data to back a single thought! Again, you have no authority over my speech. I love how you think you can tell me “to run along”. Like you have any control at all other than retreading the same old false claims.

Whatever you do, do NOT spend 19 points on a late archery tag. Don't get me wrong, some of the late archery hunts can be good, but overall they suck for any type of good bull. Yes, some great bulls are taken each year on these hunts, but as I said overall they don't produce good bulls. I HIGHLY recommend a later rifle bull hunt in 27, 1, 23, 3A/3c. Especially if you are hiring a guide.

Bottom line is that the "government dog experiment" is an ill advised wolf reintroduction program that is a disgraceful waste of money, resulting in significant negative consequences to our environment and humans. That is why I have tongue in cheek suggested we introduce the government dogs in Phoenix and Tucson........... so the uneducated and neutral stakeholders that support the program out of lack of knowledge can learn first hand about the wonderful benefits from this ruthless predator.......... that kills more for the sake of killing than self sufficiency.

Wow I didn't expect this conversation to take a left turn at the light, but it seems to have. All I will add is in my work career I worked with black belt data professionals. They were excellent at data mining and identifying opportunities. Having said that, I learned that they could dissect the data excellently, and selecting windows in time, could support any story they wished to tell. Our politicians on both sides of the isle seem to do this on a daily basis. Bottom line......... as much as I respect data and science, there is no more powerful indicator of what truly is going on in the wilderness than those that live and experience it on a daily basis. That includes me and why I think I can contribute to these types of conversations "half" intelligently.

Ecology is not a hard science. Nobody has proved the benefits of wolves in today's society. AZ G&F has an Elk hunting season that is perfectly capable of controlling Elk populations. Do we need wolves to control cows? Who are the people that want wolves? The anti hunters. You can spout all of your subjective opinions and figures to convince the clueless politicians and judges who have never set foot in nature and that is all you got. And it is NOT science.

I think a lot of people are way underestimating what kind of point creep is going on with NR draw. People scoff about a late rifle tag with 19 points, but if the guy was fixed on gun hunting that’s truly his only option. As a matter of fact that just barely puts him into the bonus pass for 23 late rifle. I know a guy that burned 20 NR points for a 23 late rifle tag. It’s to the point now where there is such a large amount of NR apps that point creep is generalized across the board. My family all has 11 points as NR and could have drawn 4b early archery back when it took 7 points. Back then 3c took 11 so they were gonna hold off. Now they can barely draw 4b again and I would guess within a year or two it’ll be out of reach to them. I have a lifetime license so I’m out of that mess and am grateful for it. I don’t think most AZ residents know how good they have it, even the late rifle tags, particularly in units that are glassable allow you a chance at a bull that you truly can’t kill in most other states. Yes NM has some decent bulls if you can beat the odds. Utah and NV both offer you one chance a lifetime at a good one. WY will get you a chance at a 300-320 bull if you give them a decade or so of your life, but AZ hunts, even late hunts are truly special and more or less these days once in a lifetime. Even if you are a conscientious objector to math, unfortunately there’s no hiding from the fact that it’s a tough draw no matter what. The smartest thing you can do is be realistic and think outside the box. I never ever put in for the “best” hunt in a state or area. I analyze the living heck out of the numbers too. It’s gotten me 6-7 extremely good elk tags, two world class mule deer tags, a mountain goat tag, two AZ antelope tags, ibex, oryx, muskox, two free range buffalo and two shiras moose tags. Had I blindly put the “best” hunt down in each state, I likely wouldn’t have ever drawn a single one of those. Math is important stuff and being realistic is more important. To the OP, you’re on the right track, if you’re hung up on rifle then I’d do 23n late rifle. If muzzy, the only early tags you could draw are in rough rough places like 21 and 22S. I personally wouldn’t put 22n for any weapon. The unit 10 muzzy tag you stated is a November hunt and a tough one at that. You can draw a bunch of different early archery tags, any one would be the best elk experience in the world if you’re ok with a bow. These can all be physically easy as well as most of the units above the rim are pretty flat. Look into the outfitters for 3c archery and maybe the ground pounders for 23 late rifle. I don’t know them but they knock down some of the biggest bulls in the state on that hunt. Although I did hear they were getting $15k for a hunt, not sure if that’s true or not. Worth a call to them for sure.

Hate to bring more bad news but you’ll probably never catch max for an early rifle tag. Probably won’t catch early archery 9 either. if you really want a tag this year your best bet is an archery tag or a late rifle tag. Several units can produce good bulls in the late hunt but can be very strenuous. a question I haven’t seen is what type of bull would you be happy with?

Not sure if it's cool or not but hasn't been posted yet. Skulls are always an easy way to remember your hunt. This one was done by our own Rossislider's son and he did a great job with quick turn around and a very reasonable price.
